Almost everything has extreme settings, including one that would do nothing and one that would do way too much.
Why do cars go 150 mph when we are not allowed to drive that fast? It is because people think the car is better if it can. Same thing with the toaster. People think it is a better model if it has a wider range of capability, even if we would never use that capability.

I think frozen bagels would take longer to toast. But my great-uncle actually liked to eat burned toast. He claimed it made his hair curly (he actually had naturally curly hair, but my sister and I tried more than once to see if it actually worked). I'm always turning the toaster setting back to the lower setting at home since I only like light to medium toasted nowadays.

Most of the taoasters we get are from the FSU, so i suspect these have been designed to malfunction at the higher levels and create micro wave radiation harmful to life. I suggest you remain at least five feet away from these toasters when on highest setting.........

It's not the toaster fault... it's the bread. The right bread at that setting wouldn't burn.

(Trust me on this one.)

Because different breads come in different thicknesses which require different toasting times.
