The heart is tied into the nervous system, along with the stomach and intestines, and probably every other organ in the body, especially the brain. There is two way communication, not just one way, i.e. not just from the brain to the heart. The heart is more of a peripheral device to the brain's central processor, though. Along with electro-chemical connections along the nerve cells, there are also chemicals flowing thru the bloodstream that help communication among the internal organs. Whether the heart dispenses these into the bloodstream, I'm not sure.

The heart as you are describing it is a part of the mind. For it seems you are talking about empathy which is the soul of humanity and it lies in our minds.
