My friend is 26, his wife is 23.

He met her and was engaged to her in about a month.

They rushed to get married and knew each other only 9 months when they married.

They have been married a year.

The first month he was married his wife told him the following:

They weren't meant to be.

She realizes she was NEVER in love with him.

She loves him as a person, but she is unhappy with him and wants a divorce.

He loves her and has talked her into trying for another 6 months but she said she knows in her heart they should divorce.

They went to counseling and my friend tries his best to be romantic and stuff, but his wife says he can't force her to fall in love with him.

Is thier marriage hopeless?

I feel bad for him.

He is religious and prays that God will make their marriage work. But I don't think it will when she is not in love with him.

You can't make someone love you. She has been honest enough to tell him how she feels, yet he fails to respect her wishes. They are still young enough (and childless) so a divorce sounds like a reasonable course of action. If nothing else, they can remain friends.

She says she does not love him and never did. What more does he need to hear? Ask him if he would feel better hearing this ten years and perhaps two children from now. I spent too many years married to the wrong one, it will be much harder the longer it is put off. If she does not love him, the hard times that are sure to come will divide them or someone else will come into her life. Does he want to be the needed husband to a wife who loves another?
Remember this, only the two of them know everything about their relationship. He knows and she knows if the marriage does not really exist. No amount of prayer or counseling on his part is going to change her. I am not saying the two cannot help, but if only one is attempting to have a relationship then there is no relationship.

Bless his heart. Being married to someone who does not love you is not a good place to be. I was married to a man like that when I was very young. He ended up with multiple other partners not nearly as good looking or intelligent as me but they were more to his liking. There are many other relationships that your friend can have where he can really be with someone who loves him. I would suggest letting her go and moving on to better things. Being with someone who truly loves you is a gift from God and what he wants for us. You can not put a round block into a square hole.

If shes not in love with him there is nothing he can do. You cant force someone to fall in love with you. He needs to accept the fact he rushed into something that she really didnt want and move on with his life. If shes not happy, he will only be miserable.

Your friend sounds like he really loves his wife but unfortunately she does not love him and has told him that on many occasions. He needs to cut his losses now and find someone that deserves him.

She is speaking the truth to him. Nothing is going to make her change her mind. He needs to let her go and stop hanging on to something that isn't there.

He is wasting his time...if she doesn't love him then there is no way that he can make her love him...Tell him to move on and find a woman he can be happy with who loves him back...
