"All men are created with certain UNALIENABLE rights ... LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Never. If we are all children of our society then the death penalty is in essence the murdering of our children.
For those who said an EYE for an EYE that way of thinking was proved to be incorrect a very long time ago ( Electra ).
For those who appeal to an emotional argument ( what would you want done to the person that _____ ) we must NOT make LAWS based on emotions. Laws must be equitable, the STATE must be unbiased, emotions are neither.

Its my belief that capital punishment should only be used in the most extreme cases where there is proof beyond NO doubt that they are guilty. This being done only for the practicality that they would never be able to hurt anyone ever again. Some examples would be Osama Bin Ladin, Hitler,Charles Manson, Jeffery Dahmer, etc. Other than that, I don't think the death penality is fair because often times the person actually turns out to be innocent, and we can never give them back their lives after they've been executed. An eye for an eye makes everyone blind.

If someone committed a heinous crime with several witnesses and there is no doubt as to his guilt or innocence. If there is not hard evidence and a large # of non-associated people who saw what took place, I feel that life in prison is better because there is still that slight bit of doubt and you can't reverse capital punishment. I think it should only be used in extreme cases.

Capital punishment should be MANDATORY for anyone who kills a police officer acting in the line of duty. If a person is so callous as to kill a cop, then how can the rest of us be safe? First degree murder should also carry a death sentence. Anyone who is that cold-hearted to plan and execute a murder with malice of forethought cannot be trusted to "never do it again" and poses a threat to society -- people who decide they have the right to arbitrarily take someone else's life are putting themselves in the position of God and need to be reminded that they are mortal themselves.

i dont think capital punishment is a valid form of punishment.. for any crime.. it would be a lot worse for some one to be put in solitary confinement for life and have them rot there...why not make them pay for their crimes by making their lives as shitty as possible.. having them put to death is the easy way out... plus there are some people who were on death row and they were found innocent later... so you could be putting innocent people to death...

Excellent question:

1. Felony murder-someone dies in the commission of a felony.
2. Rape and murder of anyone: child, adult, anyone.
3. Premeditated, intentional murder.
4. Treason: leaking classified stories like the NY Times has
5. Kiling of a police officer, prision guard, solider on duty
6. Killing of a witness.
7. Killing of a judge, prosecutor, etc.

Generally, it needs to be used more. I want to get murders off the planet.

Ask the families of the victims of John Wayne Gacy, Richard Speck or Jeffrey Dahmer. Anyone who believes the death penaly isn't a deterrent to crime needs to ask themselves how many more people those three "gentlemen" will murder.

Rapists. I never want them to be on the streets again.

Mass murderers. If they can kill so many people, destroy so many lives, why didn't they just put the gun in their own mouth and pull the trigger?

Terrorists. You want the people who cause 9/11 to drain your tax dollars to keep them alive?
