If so, how? I am talking about a small time website, not a big corporate one.

You can, to a certain extent. There are JavaScript, PHP and ASp scripts (probably CGI and Python as well, I'm guessing) that can reveal IP addresses.

BUT - the Big Caveat - is that if the user is coming from a big ISP like AOL.com or something like that, you may only get a "block" IP address. In other words, it might tell you it's from AOL, but nothing more specific. And those might change depending on the modem or connection the person gets when he or she logs on at the time.

Another alternative is to make people log in when they come on your site - but most people hate that, so your site usability would suffer. But you'd know for sure who was there!

Yeah sure you can. Use a script like CNStats. Its not free...You can get it from http://www.cnstats.com or you can get an "improperly nulled" version from http://www.scriptmafia.org . All features wont work on the "nulled" version. :D

With CNStats, you can view your visitors IP addresses, their ISPs, etc. You can also know about the browsers they were using, their screen resolution, etc. And there are many other interesting and useful features.
