That is an interesting question, but they are many reasons.
The main reason is because you're new to a game, and they find themselves in superiority, and can afford being rude. Second, rudeness is already pretty common IRL, so online, it can only get worst. As list as many of the above answers, it may be psychological problems, but most of the time, those rude people are actually really nice to know online, only depends on how you approach them. Some are antagonists, which will be rude to litteraly everyone, but with less likely to have friend, or on the opposite, will have a big "fanclub" of people. On the other hand, you got those who don't want to be bothered. If you go towards someone and ask for help or whatever, you might be the 100th person in 1 hour to ask for help. There are always different reasons. If you want to avoid rude people, try games with more Role-playing, role-players are rarely rude.

cuz ur 4 n00b.
someday you will know everything about the game, then you can beat up on the freshmen. but if you are too nice, that's too bad because being mean is fun!
the best way to beat them is to not give a crap what anyone thinks about, because 99.9% of the time thay are going to be wrong.
most peoples minds are clouded.

It's the anonymity of the Internet at work. When you don't physically interact with a person, it's easy to see them as pawns of whatever game that they are running in their head. Hence, they feel free to drop all normal levels of civility. But that's just a guess as I try to not fall into that paradigm.

Hope that helps.

They are people who have problems. They go on to the Internet and yell at others to make themselves feel better. It's like in real life with bullies but they are too scared to bully people in real life because of their looks or various other reasons so they do it on line.

Because in real life they have no control. They are weak and insecure. Being rude is having control to those people and it's much easier to do that to someone you can't see then it is to do it to someone's face.
