It is an ancient system which is still dogmatically practised in several cultures to date. But it is certainly way more effective than the modern system of marrying out of love and own choice.

Arranged marriages are still practised in India, Middle East and Africa. And I cannot recall the numerous times Indians have tried to brainwash the Americans into believing that Arranged marriages are the best and perfect way of marrying. They say that only parents should choose who you have to marry & you will make mistakes if you choose on your own. In my opinion that is absolutely ridiculous.

The reason why arranged marriages work in India is because we are religiously brainwashed, thoroughly segregated from the opposite sex right from a small age, parental control is enforced even after we get married!, and if we don't want to live like that and try to lead a life of our own style - then we are scorned and disowned by our society which initially had cared for us so much.

It is for the above reasons that Arranged marriages ultimately work - military discipline. No room for love and romance, but priority towards the bigger aspects like money, children, property, parents and in-laws etc. In western culture, people are given their own freedom to marry - but this has only made people lazier, abusive and has confused the gender roles.

Usually, men have to work & raise money for the family, but women have to take care of the kids & do all the housework. In the western culture, husband and wife have to do both together. While this was a novel idea, it has shown to be an utter failure in real life. This is the second most important reason why the divorce rate in America & UK has been alarmingly high, after obviosly adultery.

Mine is Love marriage. We were in love more than 13 years before our marriage. But In our culture still arranged marriage is happening daily. Arrange marriages are proceeding base on their Economical status, Education, Money and other lifestyle. But not care about the two person who are going to live together for ever has to under stand each other or do they have their own desires about their spouse. I against to this procedure. But the same time i have fear what we will do if my brothers or my kids will choose wrong person as their spouse? God has to help them. :)

Yes and No. I trully believe that your family will choose a good mate for you because they know what is important in a partner. I would let my family choose my husband.

No parents cant make a daughter happy by doing that. She will know who she loves on her own without their help.

No way. It would be horrible to be matched up with someone you have nothing in common with and you're not attracted to. You can't be forced to fall in love.
