What year did the Firebird TA get Airbags?

I'm looking into buying a pontiac firebird trans am, but i want to know what year they first got airbags, because i know they make a car a lot safer, and being young and wanting a V8 in it, i think it would be wise to have airbags in it. Also, if the 89' has airbags, or at least a driver airbag, would you adivse the V8 or the V6

my advice is if your going to get a trans am go with the V-8 and i think they came out with air bags in them 89,90
