I found this bug in my house and I am terrified. I have a huge phobia of cockroaches. Well everyone I ask just laughs at me and says every bug I see is a cockroach to me. Its true and I dont think this one is either because all the pics I see on the net dont even resemble it. It is about well 3/4 of an inch long, it is either a really really dark brown or black. It has wings all the way down its body, but what gets me is that it has a tiny head with a ohhh I dont know how to explain this, a tusk or straw like mouth thats about the length of its head. If anyone can help so that I can sleep at night it would be greatley appreciated. It also has skinny jointed legs.

OK, I know that bugs, especially cockroaches, can be really OOOOGGGIE!! Hate roaches myself.

But without a better description, it is almost impossible to tell you what you have. However, here is what I can try to do. The link below is to pictures of *ground beetles*, which is probably what you are talking about. THERE ARE NO PICTURES OF COCKROACHES, I PROMISE! Just take a look and see if these look like what you are seeing -- there are about 90 of them, though not all of them match your description. If not, post an update with a better description, and I'll do some more hunting.

I really do want to help you -- I know what it is like to not be able to sleep -- and bugs don't bother me.

See if it is a clicker beetle. Look at the photo. If you were not so afraid you can tell by picking it up by the body and the head "clicks" back and forth.

sounds like a sewer roach or some type of beetle. It'd be easier to tell if you post a pic.

Sounds like some kind of beetle? Maybe. Either way it's gross.
