The only reason black people are still faced with it today is because alot of them, not most but alot, won't stop living in the past. These young black kids today from 30 and under try to bring up the slavery issue all the time. They don't know anything about it. Black people feel they are the only ones that were ever mistreated. If I had to choose, I would rather have been a slave duing the slavery days of america than a Jew in WW2. The jews were treated for the sake of arguement just as bad or worse than the slaves. Do you hear them going around crying about it. No, they go out, get jobs, become rich, and are getting even that way. So many blacks, and if you don't believe me just check the stats on line or call your local government, would rather sit on welfare and complain that the white man keeps them down, instead of busting their *** and make something of themselves. 60% of the prison population is not because cops are prejudice, it's because blacks do the crime. I as a white person, who has a best friend who is black, grew up in a black neighborhood, work at a place where it is almost entirely black people working around me, am tired of hearing the black excuse. Black parents need to drill it to the black kids and not let them use slavery or the white man as an excuse for their poverty. You are what you make yourself. Get a job, or 2, or 3 like I have, go to school, community colleges are cheap and financial aid and loans pay for it all. You don't need to pay back until your done when you should have a job by them. You don't get labled by a race if that race doesn't see a reason to put that lable on them. The white, asian, and hispanic race as a whole, feel the black race is lazy. When you hear sports holdouts or entertainment money issues, it is always the blacks that are causing the problem. Shut up, bust your *** and show them you are better though actions not words, and prove them wrong. And for those that want to complain about slavery, Africa, which is where slaves came from, is still mostly a third world country that doesn't even compare to america. If you still want to live there and your mad about slavery, move back, if not, I think slavery was good for you, because now you have the chance to live in america, the greatest country there is. Without slavery, you would still be living on a dirt floor in a mud hut starving and having a horrible life. Get over it, it is the past, if anything the white people are the ones suffering now, we can't get a job because minorities have the next one, we can't have our own scholarships, our own clubs, our own nothing, you are allowed to have black only everything. Talk about rasicm. I would love to switch shoes one day You don't know how good you have it, if you just take it.

Every race has had its' struggles. The Jews are still struggling, the Cubans have been suffering under Fidel Castro for decades. You can even go as far back as the Egyptians enslaving the Hebrews and the Romans enslaving the world just to build Rome. Nobody wants to take away what your race has endured. However, it is over. Move on and do not let the past continue to poison your outlook on other races. Hopefully you are young enough to get past the "whites did this to us" . Personally, I am the daughter of immigrant parents, we didn't do anything to any race. But your race says I did. This is confusing for some of us. Understand? Remember, it was a white president (Lincoln) that emancipated the blacks. It was a white president (Johnson) that enacted the civil rights movement. It was a white president (Reagen or Carter) that enacted affirmative action. By the blacks continually blaming the whites of today for their struggles is only poisoning the non-prejudice whites against your race. Good luck to you. Go forward and ignore the ignorant. Not everybody is going to like you and that's okay. You're beautiful in your own right.

Because the African Americans have been so successful in forcing their ancestors plights down everyones throats.

You are correct Africa Americans were brought to this country and sold into slavery, but start at the source. The Africans brought to this country were sold into slavery at the source by chieftains of tribes. Granted, some were captured and kidnapped, but the vast majority were bought from tribal leaders (again....not for any great amount of money or trade of goods...but a definite agreement was made).

There was also the endentured servants that sold themselves into servitude for passage to the new country. Many of them agreed to 5 years service for passage being bought for them, later to find out that it was 7, 10, or 15 years after they arrived here. Definitely a plight for them.

The Jewish People have suffered throughout history as well (held in slavery for hundreds of years in Egypt) and outcast from many countries during the 30's and 40's. Slaughtered in mass during WWII. Look to the news today and you'll see the tiny little country of Israel constantly under attack by it's neighbors and not receiving any international help.

You mention "Strife and slavery" issues black people still face everyday. I don't know where you are, but slavery no longer exists and hasn't existed in M-A-N-Y years. In fact, I don't believe there are any blacks alive today that were working slaves. Sure there are ancestors of those that were slaves a generation or two ago (more two than one).

Does prejudice exist? Absolutely it does. It is a wide bigot blanket that covers various races, colors, and creeds. Nowadays it's not only that....it's fat people, skinny people, mentally challenged people, physically challenged people, bald men, pregnant women, homosexuals, and much much more. I've even seen people be looked down upon because of the type of car they drive or where they live.

For a group of people (blacks or otherwise) to hold onto an issue such as slavery (or even the holocaust) that has been altered, outlawed, and no longer a threat is preposterous. I could see if you were a slave at one point and still reluctant to trust the situation, but you're not. You're 1, 2, 3, or 4 generations removed from that situation. Opportunity exists equally for everyone in this country. When you do encounter the bigots or those that still are racially motivated, there are agencies and other groups established to intervene on your behalf. You are only as limited as you want to limit yourself and that is the root of the problem. I've known many black people that gripe and complain that they didn't get this or that because they were black, when that wasn't the case.....just the excuse they found easier to accept than the fact that they didn't deserve or weren't qualified for what they were trying to get.

Blacks were not the only people forced....the first slaves were Chinese...read your history. Not to mention what the Native Americans went through. Africans are killing each other today, I don't see any African Americans helping them or speaking of their plight. MAYBE your ancestors were slaves....but you personally do not have any issues regarding slavery and the only negative issues blacks have today are the ones they bring upon their-selves. You should look at the opportunities that are offered here in America.....could be worse, you could still be in Africa.

many of the people that are saying, "get over it, slavery is over, you need to move on with your life." you don't seem to understand what it feels like to walk into a restaurant and feel the slap of racism come down on you like a ton of bricks. Racism is still alive and well today, and although I as a peson of Mexican descent , might not feel it every day of my life as maybe an AfricaAmerican does, I still see it and endure it when I walk into a restaurant and most of the people in the community are white. and yes, it usually IS the white communities that have these racist tendencies.

I am not trying to compare myself to African-Americans, but a lot of what the people are saying here is true. Cubans, Indians, Asians, Mexicans (Mex-Amer), Jewish folk. We have all had to deal with problems of extermination and eradication from this country. This nation has a lot of probles. okay, so we took the Jews in when Hitler was at his worst, but what about the things that were happening here in this country? True, no one is being lynched anymore (or at least, not to my knowledge), but we still have problems in this country with racism. Are you trying to get across to the public that racism is still in existence today? I know that a lot of people might not think it to be so because they are "priveleged" enough to be white, but black and brown and any other different color skin, still feels it. It sneeks up on you and slaps you in the face. at least that's how it happens in my Mexican world. it might be a little more blunt in yours.

Well, I agree with you. I mean, blacks have been through hell and back to advance in today's culture.

But in my opinion, the struggles of Blacks are the most recognized in the country. Public schools teach kids of all races about the Civil Rights movement, and how blacks were enslaved. All through school, we hear about Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm "X", and all of the rest. What about Cesar Chavez? The struggles of Native Americans? Rarely are they mentioned.

Blacks have an entire MONTH dedicated to their victory over racial discrimination, but whites don't have that, and if they TRIED to create one, the African-American community would call them "racist". It seems farfetched, but it's true.

Other cultures compare only because they want their struggles to be recognized like the struggles of blacks are recognized.

Hope it helps! ^_^

Actually, although you have a fair point, how do you think The native Indians felt, or the mayans and Aztecs who had their land taken from them and thew were made slaves?
No ones suffering can be compared. It is not a competition of who suffered more or who had the rawest deal. we all suffer, and we're all suppressed, and we all have a history and heritage that had to fight to survive. Don't feel like only blacks have the right to feel like they've been wrong footed, be glad that you are no longer in that situation and that you can make a difference in the world.

It's because one major way that people process thoughts is by comparison. Slavery and black civil rights are big issues that nearly all Americans know something about, so it's an easy example to compare other things to, because you know whoever you're talking to will understand what you're trying to say.

bacuase the strong battle for freedom and the brutaility they had to endure to take it is uplifting and heroic and other races what to be thought about the same way that people think about the African american struggle for freedom, so it seems logical to compare a forced race to battle for their freedom and deal with race struggles for some ungodly number of years with a race that chose to be in america with the frredom the want not being granted to them with ease, As they feel they deserve, but no one is free, we are all slaves to somthing just now we all get paid a little better.

No one is comparing........every country has racism...so it not new issue......In order to make foreigner understand circumstances they use something generic way to convey message like use of language English and concept of slavery.......
Also, it should be a positive thing for many have acknowledged pain many have faced and still face.......as in a way aspire to have leader like Martin Luther.....
