You have to take the feeder down. The bees are attracted to the sugar. My grandmother has this problem, and has tried everything, and nothing has worked. The hummingbirds seem to work around the bees.

That's tough to do... because the bees are attracted by the sugar water in the hummingbird feeder nectar. If you lose the sugar in the mixture, while it won't attract the bees any longer... it's just a matter of time that the hummingbirds figure out what's missing too and go elsewhere.

I used to have the identical obstacle. I post hummingbird feeders each and every summer time and by way of mid summer time, it was once getting used quite often by way of bees. Unlike your hindrance, I had adequate feeders in a row that the birds have been nonetheless ready to uncover open ports no longer included in bees. I additionally questioned why it was once that the bees weren't a obstacle till later in the summertime than whilst I first began feeding the hummingbirds. The reply is cleanliness. When you fill your hummingbird feeders, do not simply fill them. Take them within, one after the other and pour boiling water at the feeding ports. This will wash away any remnants of developed-up nectar. nce the feeders had been wiped clean with boiling water, replenish with sugar water or nectar and cling them once more. Bees do not have the advantage of lengthy expenditures to arrive is just like the birds do. They are feeding at the construct up that's left after repeated use and refills. You would possibly not see the bees at safely wiped clean hummingbird feeders. Another answer is to make an answer of sugar water and placed it in a shallow, open dish a couple of ft away out of your hummingbird feeders. This will draw in the bees and they are going to decide on it when you consider that they may be able to truthfully feed from it with out suffering. The birds could have thier possess feeders once more and the bees could have theirs.

Very tough to do as they want the sugar water. You could try to get a feeder that has very long narrow openings that the bees could not reach. They do make them that the birds can get but the bees can't get to. Otherwise, they will not really do any harm to you are the birds unless you try to attack them by swatting at them. Very docile if you just leave them alone and don't pose a threat to them and won't harm the birds either.

Put Vicks Vapo rub around the opening of he feeder. It won't deter the hummingbirds, but it will keep the bees away.

Are you sure they aren't small hummingbirds? If they are bees, they won't bother you. They are part of nature too. They are probably asking each other how to get rid of those pesky humans.
