Where is the best place to visit in London?

There's lots to see.and visit. Here's a brief list of the main attractions.

Palaces - Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court Palace. All of these are open to visitors.

Museums and Galleries - Natural History Museum, Science Museum, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, The Tate and Tate Modern, British Museum, Imperial War Museum.

Famous Buildings and Monuments etc - The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Whitehall and Downing Street, Clarence House, St James Palace, Tower of London, Trafalgar Square, Marble Arch, Monument, Tower Bridge, London Eye.

Churches - Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, St Clement Dane, Temple Church, Saint Martin in the field.

There's such a lot to see I can't possibly list them all here. I'd recommend an Eyewitness Travel Guide as they're very comprehensive and include attractions, opening times, photos and maps.

Try the website for The Original London Walks as they do loads of guided tours around the city, They're very cheap and you can take Jack the Ripper, Harry Potter, The Da Vinci Code, Charles Dickens, Museum and Ghost walks. They are very good indeed and you get to see the places lots of tourists don't eve know about.

Travel by tube or bus, It's cheaper than by taxi and very convenient. You can get travel cards from your nearest tube station.

The main shopping streets are Oxford and Regent Street. You can try New Bond Street for Designer labels. Camden for alternative clothing. There's a big mall in Brent Cross also.

As for food, there are places to eat everywhere. China Town in Soho is good and Brick Lane for Indian Food in particular.

There are lots of public parks and green areas in London. I'd recommend lunch al fresco if it's fine.

personally ... id def get in a trip to the theatre! but in terms of a place its well worth getting a ticket for the London Eye - its near to a few of the other famous landmarks (Tower & London Bridges) so you can also have a potter around and discover the capital for yourself! the london eye has got to be on your list - preferably book tickets for night (its better to book cos you get money off & guarenteed a ride)

im assuming that you visiting central london ... cos most of London kinda isnt the place youd really wanna visit! lol But if shoppings your thing then Oxford Street is up your street (sorry bad pun) - its really close to trafalgar square (with the Nelson statue) & leiciester square (where the film premiers are)!

its about you - id be happy with a visit to the museums (Natural History, Science or British - which is the best by far) - plus there ALL free to get into ... but most people would hate a day at a museum! also on the 'education' front is the london dungeons, waxworks & galleries which do cost - i would personally avoid the waxworks &dugeons for this reason (its not really worth the money unless your desperate to go!)

London is so full of stuff that you could just bus hop a little and explore - just make sure you end up near the london eye at some point! London's parks (Regents and Hyde) are normally a nice green addition but looking a bit scorched at the moment! - hopefully by the time get to london we would have had a mid summer monsoon and it will the lovely and (a little) green again!

Greenwich Park is nice as well as Blackheath Village.

Or find a nice little pub along-side the river in which you can sit and chill with a lovely cold shandy in the sunshine and watch the world go by.

Other than that, Best Place to visit in London. Charlton Athletic Football ground. Got a lovely little restaurant there too which do great Sandwiches at decent prices.

The LONDON EYE

You can see the entire London Landscape then from up there, but buy a souvenir book, so you can sort out what you are looking at and where it is, then it saves all that shoe leather, then you can sort out WHAT you want to see most of all once you get down, go on a clear day of course. the natural history museum!
its free to get in and one of the most amazing places. it has dinosaur bones, almost if not nearly every animal and insect that's existed, plus loads more. the place is massive!
definitely worth checking out! i went the other week and loved it, and I'm not even an intellectual person, its just very interesting
