My friend went to the doctor and had a urine test. He said that it is positive and that she is 1 month and 2 weeks pregnant. Is it possible that it might not be 100% accurate? I know that there are situations when a negative test result turns out to be positive. But have there been a situation when a positive test result turns out to be negative even if it is a very low chance???

There is a greater chance of a negative test being wrong than a positive test. The tests react to the hormone levels in the urine, and when you are pregnant, your levels shoot up immediately. The tests are pretty sensitive to the hormones, but some women have lower levels of hormones, and therefore will get a negative test, and it is positive.
Yes - the chance is there for it to be wrong, but I would just plan on having a baby in 8 months. . . Sorry. . .

False negatives are much more common than false positives, although it can happen. If she had her urine test in a doctor's office I'd say it's unlikely they would have made a mistake. Did the doctor do an internal examination? An ob/gyn can tell by looking at a woman's cervix that she is pregnant.

Never a false positive. The test only turns positive if it detects the pregnancy hormone. There have been instances where a woman has had a chemical pregnancy, when she conceived but didn't implant so only the hormone remains, but that is unlikely. Same thing goes if she had a recent miscarriage.

I had a friend who had a molar pregnancy. But usually when a urine test is positive, they do an ultrasound to check the age of the baby. If her doctor says she is pregnant, I'd trust him =)

no. It has to detect the pregnancy hormone to come out positive.... if it was positive then she is pregnant.

There always miscarriages, and I think its possible its wrong but its very rare.
