The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite. It has no formal name other than "The Moon", although in English it is occasionally called Luna (Latin for moon), or Selene (Greek for moon), to distinguish it from the generic "moon" (natural satellites of other planets are also called moons). The terms lunar, selene/seleno-, and -cynthion (from the Lunar deities Selene and Cynthia) refer to the Moon (aposelene, selenocentric, pericynthion, etc.).
The Moon is nameless because it is our one and only moon. Call it what you think it should be called, maybe it will catch on.

The earth's moon has a name. It is called MOON. It received this name long before people found out that not only the earth, but other planets can have moons as well .
So "moon" became the generic word for "planet's satellite".

It's formal name is Luna, I believe, but we all just call it "The Moon". Part of it is that Earth only *has* one moon - Jupiter and Saturn have more, so if one said "The Moon" there, you'd have to ask "Which one?"

It doesn't have a name. People will always say, "Oh, it's Luna." Not valid. Luna is latin for "moon." Nice try.
Every other moon in the S.S. has a cool name like Titan, IO or Gemenese, etc.
I suggest our moon have a name too. I propose something cool like "Schmegma Prime."
While we're at it, let's name the damn sun too!

Luna may be it's real name, I'm not sure about that one. But you could also ask the same question about our sun, in which case the answer would be Sol.
