I have gone from Boston to LA, via NY by car about 7 times. Not recently. But the main highways are the same now as when I went. Maybe except around Pheonix - really grown.

The first time I did this was on Route 66, the only way to get from Chicago to LA in the 1950s.

One time I spent 3 months doing just this in reverse. So, I when north, then south, then north, etc, put 13000 miles on my car insted of the usual 3400.

Go through St. Louis Misouri, see the gateway to the west. There is an old railway station converted into a Mall about 2 miles west of that.

Every state has stuff to see, but I generally pass over the eastern states, because I can do quick trips to the Eastern sites since I live here mostly.

Three weeks is enough time to go to Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon if you have never been. In Yellowstone, see Old Faithful, anything else is gravy there. Bears, Moose, Elk, are seen frequently.

Enter the Grand Canyon from the North East side, since you are going east. There are Navajo vendors selling their arts. Nice stuff.

Then you can stop in Las Vegas too.

Between Yellowstone and Grand Canyon, you can go a whole variety of ways. Some out of the way, some along the way, depending how you leave Yellowstone, from the north west, or from the Jackson Hole exit.

Here is a list of places that are really cool to see and go to.
Four Corners,
Monument National Park
Canyon de Chey (spelt wrong - it is near the 4 corners in AZ)
Zion,
Bryce,
Painted Desert
Petrefied Forest
Sedona

If you cannot tell, I favor the west. There are caverns, mountains, oddities, rivers, trees (oh yes, try to see the Sequoia trees in the Sierra Mountains, and the Redwood trees near Montery CA).

What a great country to see. Enjoy the drive, life is a journey - not a destination.

I drove from Cleveland to LA a few times. I would suggest the southern route, US 40. It's a lot more interesting, at least once you get to Texas. The eastern part of the trip through the midwest is a real snoozefest. Drive straight through. In Amarillo Texas, you have to stop at the Big Texan. That's the place famous for the 72oz steak free if you eat it in an hour. I'm not suggesting that, but it's good eats no matter what. I stop there every time I am going through. Once you get into NM and AZ, you can just pull off at various exits and drive straigh into the beautiful desert at just about any point that looks good. It's always been fun to just discover things at random on road trips. I would also suggest this website
www.roadsideamerica.com
It will show you things to see along the entire route from NY to LA. Good luck and have fun. I wish I could come with.

Do you mean New York City to Los Angeles, or New York state to Louisiana? In either case, my best advice is to get some help from Triple A. This may cost you the price of a membership, but that organization has so much valuable information that for a long road trip, it is indispensable. They can tell you where there is road construction, so you can avoid long delays, and they have information on all the sites along the way, including unusual ones that everyone may not know about.

Nope, but I went on a Greyhound bus from Providence, Rhode Island, to Salem, Oregon, a few years ago and it took me about five days to get there. I went through NYC, Chicago, Salt Lake City, and Portland (OR). I don't remember the route that the bus took but I do know that Route 6 goes from Provincetown, Massachusetts, to Bishop, California. The route goes through Pennsylvania, Cleveland (a beautiful city), Chicago (another beautiful city), Omaha (nice country city), Denver, and then to Cali. Do becareful of rest stop areas by the side of the highway because it is a potentially dangerous spot. If you are an AAA member then surely you'll be able to get many discounts off of hotels/motels, some restaurants, other offers, and road services. If you're hungry, trying stopping at an Arby's and/or Country Buffet because there are many of them throughout the middle of the country by the side of the highway at those truck stops. By the way, you'll see the most amazing landscapes in this country travelling from NYC to Cali, especially in Utah and Oregon (if you go that way), & the Cascades because they're breath-taking. If you're looking for a little adventure and fun on your trip then try this site Roadside America because they point out the most interesting and oddest spots & landmarks in America. Another thing to mention, if you're worried about gas then I have also included another website below that might help you out. Do take care, stay safe, and have loads of fun! :-)

i've got faith that BMW is the appropriate. in case you do not desire 2, then to each is very own. I certainly have a 2010 M3 and a 2009 535 Xi. Acura has made themselve's right into a luxurious style. in spite of the shown fact that, i might on no account evaluate an Acura or an Audi. the only Mercedes i might evaluate could be the SL AMG sequence yet my chum had to many issues of his. you may desire to truly get yet another BMW which includes a three sequence or 5 sequence. If image concerns than BMW or Mercedes could be your appropriate guess. Audi isn't considered a picture automobile between my community. it quite is considered an over-priced volkswagen. additionally, no person quite brag's approximately there Acura's for status and image. Acura might desire to be greater comparible to Lexus, a luxurious branch of a eastern business enterprise, yet they are not as undemanding.

I've driven cross country twice but it was from northern cal instead of so cal. I would suggest taking i-80 all the way until you get to the turnpike because they really get you on fees. We took a back highway that was I 20 or something like that. But I dont' think that gets you into the city. From 1-80 do a search on map quest and see which back roads you can take because turnpike fees are outrageous!!!
