I personally think that Albert Pujols is one of the most over rated players in the game today. Also, I think that Ryan Howard, Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Beltran will hit more homeruns than him. My personal favorites are Soriano and Beltran. What you think?

Honestly, Pujols has probably had 5-7 homeruns sense he's come back. I mean, I think Carlos Zombrano has hit more homeruns recently then he has.

Beltran deserves consideration, but Pujols probably will win it again this season as long as the Cardinals don't totally collapse. Soriano's numbers are good enough, but he plays on a lousy team and there are several players with stats that are pretty comparable to his that are playing on much better teams.

In the AL, I'll be shocked if it's not David Ortiz, although I have to admit that Derek Jeter is putting together a nice season. (Can't stand the guy, but he's definitely worthy of consideration this year...)

AL- Morneau/Jeter
Big Papi doesn't play defense so I really don't think he should even be considered unless he wins the rbi chase by 50

NL Beltran/Howard/Berkman/Pujols/Andruw Jones I think with 2 monthes left all of these guys are in the running. Pujols is anything but overrated though. He puts up 40 doubles and 40 hrs every year.. and hits .330 or so. He is also a good fielding first basemen. Right now I would give the edge to Beltran, he plays gold glove center field too which should count for a lot, but usually doesn't.

ok thing on the big fatso, i mean papi. On average there are what, about 80 plate appearances total per game. If you are a DH you affect what, maybe 10 at best 15? That's being very generous. All non DH player play 45-55 plate appearances. That's a big difference. How many runs does Beltran save a game with his range, how about Jeter with his fielding? even if they save 1 run every 2 games, that's 80 more runs per season.
Ok so that means Big Papi better produce 80 more runs than a guy like Jeter or beltran and probably 40-50 more than a firstbasemen like Morneau. Get off the big fat can't roll out of the dugout more than 4 or 5 times a game DH is MVP kick. He is a hitter not a baseball player...

You are a fool if you think Pujols is overrated, since he is basically this generation's version of Joe Dimaggio. Unless you think joltin joe is overrated too, in which case you may want to think about your life, the existence of humanity, etc. etc. until you come back to the world of the sane.

Now, about MVPs...Pujols wins it if the Cards hold on in the Central, but if the Mets are the best record in baseball then Beltran gets it. In the AL, it should be Big Papi no question. More than anything else, he would deserve to win it just to make up for his close finishes in years past (5th, 3rd, 2nd). The man deserves to win at least one MVP in his career, which has basically single-handedly revived Red Sox Nation.

Moreover, this season, Big Papi leads the league in HRs, RBIs, and is slugging at a good clip too. He has FIVE walf-off hits this year (which, basically, means that he CREATED five wins on his own). That is pretty valuable, and despite what Jeter has done, he is not the most valuable person on his team (and if he is, he isn't by much). Konerko, Dye and Thome will take votes from each other. Despite Manny being Manny, this is ORtiz's team and he deserves to win. After all, at least Ortiz can run the bases (unlike Jason Giambi) and his sitting actually HELPS the team (takes a bad fielder out of the field) and allows them to play Kevin Youkilis full time.

I agree with the consensus here, but rmember that 1/3 of the season awaits:
Ortiz over Jeter, Wells, Morneau, Papelbon, etc. in the AL
The NL is fairlywide open, but don't count out the following: Pujols, Wright, Beltran, and either Howard or Utley or even Berkman if one of these mediocre teams gets in the playoffs.

As to Pujols being overrated, maybe Luis Pujols was, but Albert is a once in a generation hitter, and a total class act!

I do believe that Pujols is as good as advertised, but, I belive Beltran will win the MVP. For three reasons: 1.- Plays on the best NL team; 2.- Best player on the best team; 3.- Better all around player in the whole league (close 2nd Vernon Wells). He deserves way more than Pujols.
In the AL the probable winner will be Big Papi Ortiz, although, I'm not all for the DH thing, but, the guy is a monster and people in Boston love him and rest of the teams have a terror of facing him.

Pujols overrated? That's like calling you someone that's knowledgeable about baseball...

Pujols is the best all-around hitter in the game today, hits for average, power and gets on base better than anyone you mentioned...he fields his position well, albeit one that's easier than CF- Pujols is your NL MVP over Beltran...

In the AL, Ortiz wins in a tight one against Jeter...Papi is having another monster year, and DH or no DH he deserves the award...he the most "valuable" player in the AL, and I'm sorry, but nobody cared about fielding when Bonds won his last few awards, or Frank Thomas won his...etc...etc...etc...if fielding mattered that much then Ozzie Smith or Omar Vizquel would have won at some point...

I think in the NL it should be Soriano...
In the AL it should go to the Yankee Captain, Derek Jeter...
Thier is no way Big Pipi should get it,anyone could sit on the bench and stand up every other inning to hit,he's always fresh not tired. Maybe if he was a position player he wouldn't be doing so good.
MLB should come up with some rule saying the MVP must play a minimum of like 60 games on the field.

Pujols is one of the best hitters in the game today, period. He has lost a little bit since his injury, but once he is all healed up will continue to be one if not the best in all the game. That being said, I am a Mets fan and am rooting for Beltran to win it. Also don't be surprised if David Wright sooner or later gets out of this slump he is in and goes on a tear to move himself up on the list.

In the AL, I give respect to Jeter, but Ortiz deserves it more. I know he doesn't play the field, but I think he more than makes up for it with his bat. Also, If Liriano is not badly hurt and remains at his pace and takes the Twins to the postseason, you have to put him in the running as well.

I SEVERELY disagree with u calling Pujols OVERRATED. This guy, hits in runs, hes a good fielder, he gets on base. But I agree, Beltran is having a HUGE second half, hes my favorite to win it. Since hes on a winning team. Soriano is on a bad team.
