Take the first day (or first couple of days) and relax and get an idea of what other people wear. Dress comfortably, like a pair of favorite jeans. You will have a LOT of things to worry about the first day, so you dont want to worry about clothes.
And no heels on the first day - you dont know how much walking you will have to do, so keep your feet comfortable. Later you can try heels once you know your way around the school.
But dress how YOU like to dress, and dont worry about labels or groups. You will be more comfortable and sure of yourself, and people will respect that.

Wear what you like and what keeps you comfy. You can never go wrong with regualr jeans and a tshirt. School is school..half the people come in in their pajamas (if its public school) anyways. Just look respectable and get just a few nice shirts for pick me up days when you're feeling insecure and as though you're having a bad hair day. But that doesn't mean go and raid hollister. Forever 21, Kohls, and Wet Seal are three stores with some cute stuff for not a lot of money. 7,8,9 also has adorable stuff. Also, layer your clothes: buy 3 solid colored spaghetti strap tank tops and 3 shirts with v necks that go down far enough where you need to wear a tank top under it. This will give you triple the amount of possibilities. And don't worry about repeating an outfit. Buy a skirt or two to mix and match, and 2 pairs of sneakers. Dressy shoes can be annoying, especially in a big high school. Boots can be even worse. Flip flops are nice in the beg. and end of the year.
Public school is not like the movies where everyone has to wear hollister, abercrombie, and other brand names. You can wear what you want and as long as you look respectable, no one will care. Don't get too caught up in placing people in groups based on what they wear either. Many people hang out with people who wear all different kind of stuff. So just wear whats comfy and fits your style and you won't be doing anything stupid.
You know you've gone over the top when you're spending too much time and money on clothes. Once school starts mornings will be hectic, and you really won't care what you're wearing. Lay clothes out the night before to save time.
Best of luck. :)

Im 24, when I was in high school, and I know even now, that yes there are labels and people will try to label you. Wear whatever you like, whatever feels comfortable. Trust me, to try to fit in or not fit in with certain groups is not the way to go. You can wear heels but I wouldnt suggest it because it wont be comfortable Im sure you will be doing some walking. Going over the top would maybe wearing fancy jewelry and 3 piece ensembles like youre looking for a job in an office hehe. No matter what you look like, if you have confidence and you smile and treat people nice you will make some friends, no guarantee you will be super popular. Just have faith in yourself. A lot of kids in HS are fake so just be yourself. Good luck!

Well, I hate to say this but labels most certainly count in high school. No matter what anyone tells you. If you want to fit in go to the local mall and observe what different people in your age group are wearing it will most certainly give you a heads up on what is to come. Depending on your budget you can find great ideas from looking at what other people wear. I also do think that if you are confident it what you wear.. anything will look good on you. Also watch the show What Not To Wear for some fashion ideas.....It is on the Style Channel...in FL. Hope this helps

Just wear anything you want. Yes, stereotypes matter to some people, but that doesn't mean it has to matter to you. Go to a variety of different stores. You know you're going over the top when you wear clothes that all have an expensive label on them, like a shirt that says Abercrombie, pants that say Abercrombie... No heels unless you're wearing a skirt. Just be yourself, you'll be fine.

Hey! I am in the Soph year too. Well, sorry hun brand names are still totally in.
Some are:
1. HCo
2. Abercrombie & Fitch
3. American Eagle
4. the old stuff like: Roxy, Old Navy, and Aeropostale
5. Gucci, Juicy (only if you want to show off wealth)
it's okay to wear heels as long as they are not spikes. And if you like something wear it. It gives you independence and style courage and let's you be yourself. If no one wears at first they will follow. Plus, you will know you are going over the top if all you do is worry about clothes or start wearing chains and stuff that's to skimpy like showing off your clevage just be normal about it and people will luv ya. Have an awesome year!

Hey girl. I am going to the eleventh grade. I have to wear uniform at my school, so I know how you feel (I go to public school). To answer your question, I personally think that there are "labels" in high school. But, it is up to you to put yourself in those categoroes. As far as your clothing, I think that you should hit the mall or someplace where teens hang out and check out their fashion sense, just to get a taste of what they are wearing. Just one warning, though, DON'T try to dress like them, just get your own ideas from what they wear, and pick out what YOU like when you go shopping for clothes. Be yourself, and show your style and personality. Be unique, but fashionable! Always be confident in whatever you do!!

Wear what you are comfortable in. Focus on your studies, not what everyone is wearing. Don't worry so much about fitting in, once you graduate none of that matters anymore. All the "popular" people that wouldnt lower themselves to talk to anyone got really friendly after graduation. Labels do "count" in High school land, but if you spend all your money on fancy clothes youll regret it when you dont have any college savings.

ya know, i personally think HS and all the drama and fashion involved is way too demanding, discriminating and quite frankly the dumbest thing you will ever experience in your entire educational career.
having said that, fashion is also super fun and you should always wear things that suit your style, and NOT buy things that you think your friends would like. shop around and get the colors, styles, etc that you feel comfortable in. It's important to feel good, or else you'll have a crappy day. I know this from experience - it happens to me all too often.
Just have fun with it and don't stress ... high schoolers are way too big on themselves as it is ... don't give them any reason to think they have control over you and what you buy, wear, say, do ... etc. just be yourself!!

i can understand ur worries. but the best advice is just to be yourself. lables as u mentioned do not affect how u feel about urself (if u r a strong person) BE URSELF dress as u normally would and act as u normally would. true friends r won from da heart not what u wear.
i think u should shop @ da gap caosue they have lots of styles and u can wear them wethere u r conservative or trendy.
peace out,
flippy
