We had them in the car when we drove from CT to Brooklyn.
So the heat got to them......I got rid of all the wilted leaves, now the plants are just sparse.....and still looking a tad lifeless.
I put them in partial sunshine for a day since... they are also in doubled pots ot avoid excess water from leeking to the floor ..should I take them out to let the rooyts breathe? or it does not matter .......What it it that I am doing wrong/ What is it that I am no doing?

You do need to check the bottom of the double pots to see if there is any excess water. Pour it off if there is.

You may need to find out exactly what type of plants you have before you can really tend to them well; then you can google them for instructions. Otherwise, a general houseplant link like the one below might help.

You probably put your plant in a state of shock. If it lives it will adjust. All you can do is take good care of it. Its in a new environment and needs to get used to that environment. Only time will tell. Possibly purchasing some plant food for it to add necessary nutrients.

Plants can grow back with the right type of care. Also if its outside only water at night or in early morning. Heat mixed with water on the leaves with cause the leaves to fry and die. So only water in cool parts of day.

As others said mist the leaves. If you do DO NOT DO IT IN DAYLIGHT. It kills the plant.

If u can give name of the plant/plants then it will be more easy to answer ur question. When u took the plants from a nursery did their roots were disturbed, if yes, then they will take time to reestablish their roots. You must not keep the plants in excess water.Keep them in shade or partial shade and put them in their natural environment as soon as possible.

Make sure they are getting good water but do not let them stand in water. Let them dry out between waterings and mist the leaves with water. It takes a bit of time to get used to their new environment so just treat them with some tlc and mist them daily several times and they should come out of it.

probably they need more sun
and i wouldn´t expose the roots (plants don´t breathe through roots , but through leaf and talus)
