If you are in the United States of America, which I assume you are, Richard Nixon was elected in 1968, but did not take office until 1969. The President in 1968 was Lyndon Baines Johnson.

US presidents don't take office the year they are elected, but are inaugurated the following January. It used to be March, but that was too long after the election and the presidents going out of office were called "lame ducks" because they sat in office with nothing to do.
