Sounds like wasps or hornets, not bees. As others have said, there are poison sprays you can use, and they are effective - just watch out, because there are often other exits out of their underground nests, and wasps can be quite aggressive. They can sting repeatedly, too. If you use the sprays, use them in the evening after the wasps have returned to their nest.
I am very allergic to wasp stings, so I try to keep them controlled. You can get disposable wasp traps at feed stores and places like Home Depot. You put water in them, and there is a wasp attractant in the trap which draws the wasps in through small holes. Then they can't find their way out, and they drown. We have had great success with this, and our numbers of yellowjacket wasps are way down.
Whatever you do, either the poisons or the traps, don't have someone who is allergic handle this job. It could literally kill them!

A SUPER, NON-TOXIC, ALL NATURAL way to kill bees in the ground:

PART ONE - IMMOBILIZE BEES FOR YOUR SAFETY
Dump ice (about the amount of a one-gallon milk jug) on the hole.
The cold slows them up, as their bodies start to put them into hibernation. This prevents them from swarming around and stinging you for part two.

PART TWO - THE KILLING BEGINS
After about a half hour, it is safe to go back to the hole and place a plastic trash bag over the hole. Hold it in place with something heavy, like rocks. The plastic keeps the bees from getting out, and within a day or two, (the longer the better), the heat builds up underneath the plastic and cooks them dead. Just remove the plastic, and it's all good.

Bees are on the endangered spieces list so call someone that owns hives. But it is most likely dirt dobbers and they are very dangerous. Wait till night and get a good spray from the garden center that has an extended sprayer. Then spray the whole can on them. Then run in the house. Be careful.

Sounds like yellow jackets. I used to hose the hole good with water, throw in a moth ball, and then plug up the hole so that the bees would stop bothering my dogs. Of course, the ones left outside get very angry for a while, but they'll get over it. Sometimes there is another entrance, so be on the lookout for that too.

Be careful when doing all this so as to avoid being stung.

Sounds more like possibly hornets or wasps. Are they banded with yellow and black? If so,they are hornets and can be very dangerous. Get some good spray for hornets and follow the directions on the can. Normally you will spray their opening very well and if they come up out of it you keep spraying it. If there are any that are not killed, repeat the treatment and that should do it.

The lady above me is right.
Get several people with the foaming flying insect killer.
It kills bees or wasps fast.
We use two people with two cans each and spray from different directions. Then leave for awhile. It is really fun and very easy.

I think you got yellow jackets in your yard. so you should throw a bottle rocket in their or make a homemade grenade of some sort. Or an even easier way is napalm. This is easy to make, just pour powdered soap into a container of gas. Make sure you use a wooden spoon to stir, or we will read about you in the newspaper. Have fun.
