I'm a butch who's with a beautiful femme and I don't understand why there are SOME lesbians out there that are really bothered by the dynamic. What is it?

Thank you all for your responses so far.

Just for the record, I do ignore criticism. I'm just curious if a lesbian would answer honestly why it bothers them.

It amazes me to no end how offended some of them get. But believe me, it encourages me to be in their faces about it....lol.

And for Big B....my interpretation of God is a loving one. The one you describe is not one I'd like to know.

And be cautious of how you throw the word AIDS around. Learn more about it before you talk. It's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Maybe you should be the one repenting.

I am a bisexual woman so I'm not deeply rooted in the lesbian community, but I'd like to suggest a thought that I have seen from society in general.

From what I gathered from the question, there are other lesbians who look at you strange because you are with a femme. This sounds a lot like what happens to inter-racial couples. These other lesbians who are bothered by the dynamic may be experiencing similar feelings to those who are opposed to anyone in a bi-racial, cross-ethnic, or opposite religious relationships.

These lesbians that you talk about might be thinking similar thoughts to the people I mentioned above. They feel as though since you are a butch, you must date butch, or since she is femme, she must date femme.

Again, this is just a thought from an outside observer. Thanks for letting me throw in my $0.02.

Well, I'm a Femm who is happily married to my teddy bear of a Trans-Butch (viva la BOSTON!) I love Butch women and butch women love me. I really believe that it is sad that there is bigotry in our own community. However I believe that the lack of understanding stems from the 60's-70's when lesbians and straight women alike threw off all gender roles. Butches and Femms were shunned, even glared out of the few clubs that were open to us. Being a Butch or Femm is accepting societies gender roles - even if you are still within your own gender.

I'm femme, and I'm not attracted to butches. I think the reason why people always have something to say is because, if you're a femme and you're attracted to a woman who emulates a man in almost every manner, then why not be with a man? But in the end, it doesn't matter what people say as long as you love each other, then tell everyone else to kiss your ***.

Because being a lesbian doesn't make someone a good person. There are still bigots and hypocrites in our own community. Just look at the politics between the G, L, B, and T communities. My guess is they think that you're "giving a bad representation of the lesbian community." Just ignore them.

I have no idea. I am a butch and I am dating a femme and it is wonderful. There is nothing better to me to have a sweet femme woman. And she loves knowing that she can depend on me. And she loves that I am bigger and stronger than her. I think the butch femme dynamic is a wonderful thing and for all the haters, **** em!

kinda sucks that there's bigotry within our own community. I personally don't care myself, whatever makes someone happen, you know? I'm not really "butch" but, I guess I'd be considered a dyke...my girl is a lot more of a femme.

I personally think the butch-femme dynamic is hot, but that's just me. I think its very aesthetically appealing since it encompasses the entire visual spectrum of lesbian culture.

I can only guess at other people's reactions but I think it's the too similar appearance to a man with a woman and lesbians mostly don't want to deal with that in our own spaces. If you two love each other, then try to ignore the comments. My best to you.
