Keep writing for pleasure, writing because you must, and because it's in your blood. Never pass up the opportunity to share your work with others. Put up your own website and self-publish your own work. Create your own little chapbooks and hand 'em out. You've got plenty of time to publish.

Try and make your work unique and stand out from the crowd.

I also agree greatly with the first commenter. You need to get an agent before you send it to any publishing houses. most publishers at the present time like it a lot better when you have an agent.

Make sure your book is finished before searching for a publisher, edit it, check it with people you trust (but who will still give a good critique). Try to be as open to suggestions as possible (it's difficult, but it helps a lot).

Get an agent and send your work to publishers. I've been writing for years and have failed to get novels published. I've had four non-fiction books published, but fiction's harder to sell.

PS Buy a copy of the Writers and Artists' Yearbook if you haven't already - links below.

From the looks of the market out there, my initial advice is:

Keep the writing at about the third grade level. Don't tackle controversial subjects, aim for a movie deal, be attractive and preferably a celebrity, kiss Oprah's behind.

My main advice is: write from your heart and don't worry about the market. Good writers still can get through with perseverance, but hacks eyeball the market constantly, and write appropriately hacked out books.

Send it to a lot of publishers, try to polish your cover letter, or query, as much as humanly possible.

If all else fails, try this, www.lulu.com, they're somewhat of a cross between self publishing and traditional services. It will take a lot more work to sell and promote your book going this route, but sometimes its all you have.

Most importantly, never get discouraged by how many rejections you get. Persistance is what is most important.

in case you're taking a seat and surely write the unconventional and it really is reliable, then you are able to get it revealed. in case you do not, you gained't have something to post, so that you won't be able to get it revealed. once you're 50 years previous and your novel stinks, you won't be able to get revealed. Age has no longer something to do with it. the unconventional ought to exist, and be reliable. so a techniques, it would not exist.

Before you send your manuscript out to anyone
post a copy to your self by recorded delivery but don't open it,
this is your insurance in case anyone tries to plagiarise your work

SEND IT TO DIFFERENT PUBLISHING COMPANIES, AND IF IT DON'T GET PUBLISHED THE FIRST FEW TIMES, DON'T GET DISCOURAGED, JUST KEEP TRYING. GOOD LUCK.
