yahoo answers are "idealized, not real" representations of human beings, should we believe anything that is on the internet? If even the avatars on yahoo answers do not reflect reality, how can internet reflect reality? So people are spending too much time on the internet when they should be doing other, constructive things. Right or wrong.

Actually I tried to get my avatar as close as possible. But, it does not show my gray hair and wrinkles. My name in this forum does indicate who I am.

I don't pay too much attention to the avatars. Mine's pretty close, who knows about anyone else's?! *shrug* In the scope of things it's matters little if someone made choices about their avatars that actually resemble reality. However, when it comes to things like health questions, stock tips, real estate matters or anything else of importance... I always double check resources and do my own research. Here or anywhere else online, you'd better do your own homework rather than take what you see at face value.

I've been known to veg here at my desk for hours at a stretch answering questions here... surfing eBay... chatting with other cancer survivors, etc... but I always get my chores done first! *wink*

"Your questions struck a note of recognition in me. It seems no mystery that answers here are idealized; however, give thought to the idea that you and I can see some transparency in representations on "our side" of the net while those who maintain the huge database of our answers are enabled, by position, to see the accumulated string that all our related input follows. To put it more simply ... individually, my answers may seem "idealized" to the passing observer, but, those whom run the combined database (those who have access to ALL answers) can readily see the "real" part that our avatars represent. Therefore, we as individuals can follow "strings" of subjects introduced on yahoo and interpret them as fantasy while anyone, who compiles All answers collectively, can see the individual identity of the originators made up from their parts.
This leads me to claim that single answers are idealized for the most part, but, taken collectively (which we aren't allowed to see) may be real. Ask yahooanswers to give you all the answers you have written, so far. You will see that which is real among them as you reveal yourself from that which you've written."
