Ok, I wrote my father for the first time. I have never met him but I am sure he got my letter. He is in prison and has been there since i was born. Ok, I was just wondering....

If he sent me a return letter on, lets say, August 1st, how long would it take for me to get it? When

Other details: The prison and my address are in the same state, so its almost, kinda local.

About 10 days to 2 weeks, prison mail is slow.
But i'd go visit him so you can meet your dad.

Honey, that would depend on when he writes you a response, or even IF he writes one. Does he know he has a child or is this a surprise sort of thing? Also, I hope you have considered the possibility that he may not want to respond to you at all, if the two of you have not had any communication with each other since you were born. This could be a difficult situation in that case, one where he has a mixture of feelings about that fact he has a child/children. Giving the fact that he already knows you and wants to communicate with you and you haven't received a letter yet, he either just hasn't responded as yet, or he doesn't plan on doing so. Postal service can take up to about a week, even in the same city or state under normal circumstances and even longer in special ones. I'd give it at least another week, just in case he just hasn't responded yet. After then if you get no letter, he probably won't be responding.

About the same time as regular mail maybe one more day. Ever since i was 13 now i am 15 i have been sending letters to my brother that is in jail and he was in texas 2 states away for me and it got here like regular mail (he is in there off and on). Some times they don't send back a letter soon because some jail they have to pay for postal or buy paper and pencil, but some jails let them have like a letter every 2 weeks or so. Maybe u should find out if it cost them to mail a letter and next time u should maybe send enough change to mail a letter. :)

First you need to take into consideration that your father may not have received your letter yet. When you mail a letter to prison someone in their mail room reads it first and inspects it's contents (making sure there are no dirty pictures or drugs or plans of escape). From there the letter has to find it's way to your father's barracks and then wait for mail call where it will be passed along to him. If he writes you back sometimes they read those letters as well before they send them out so that may take a little more time to get to you. So be patient.

Well, according to my wife who works for the Postal Service, it would normally take just a few days if sent "In state" , BUT this summer, postal divisions across the US seem to be somewhat backed up due to recent job category changes and job deletions for certain key people that process mail. Having said that - you might be looking at anywhere from a few days to a week tops. If you don't get anything within a week and a half , maybe something went wrong somewhere.

No more than 2 weeks from when it hits the prison system, (after he wrote it), providing he has credit for stamps at the commissary.

IF HE RESPONDS, YOU SHOULD GET THE LETTER TODAY OR
TOMORROW...................YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE TO MEET HIM..........IF YOU NEVER KNEW HIM, HE'S YOUR FATHER BUT NOT YOUR DAD.
