oh, yes. Any Dr. will tell you that. My girls did everything first. Lots more grown-up then the boys too.

Women are not smarter, as much as I wish they were, although women DO have more common sense and they are more logical than men. The reason why is because women mature faster and grow up faster.
For example: Go back to 6th grade. Remember that all the girls used to be taller than the boys? Remember the boys used to be REALLY immature, and silly?
Then in 8th grade all the boys were taller, and sadly still immature.
Of course girls are immature, too but boys always are a different kind of immature.

I mean, Men are still immature at 70! My father is 56 right now, and he's a gentleman. He's very nice, etc, but he can be very silly and act stupid at times.
People say that men don't truly get mature until they have a child, and even then, they will still have their silly side. They're men! haha

Don't worry, you daughter's not smarter. I'm sure they all your kids are extremely bright and talented. Just give them some time.

Intelligence has much more to do with nature and nurture than sex. If you and your husband are intelligent, and you treat your children as intelligent human beings (not like stupid animals, as I have seen so many parents treat their children), your children are likely to be smart as well.

No matter what the child seems like at 17 months, it is too early to tell whether she will be a genius (which is spelled "genius", not "genious", by the way).

A normal 17-month-old should be walking, talking (probably about 20 words, not in sentences, according to "What to Expect The Toddler Years"), and playing with a variety of toys. Avoid TV, and she will just keep getting smarter and smarter!

Enjoy them while they're little! Intelligent kids tend to argue a lot, once they have the verbal capacity to do so.

Well, I used to think the same thing about my SON.. when he was 2, and playing with all the other 2 year olds.. he talked better, he knew colors, shapes and numbers.. none of them did.. he could write his name and draw little smile faces.. none of them could.. I thought he was smarter than all the other 2 year old boys AND girls that he was playing with.. he was.. and still is.. but normal is relative.

All children are different in when they will learn their skills. At 17 months, they should be have a vocabulary of about 15-20 words.. and by this I mean words that they use regularly and know the meaning too.. being a parrot and repeating words doesn't mean that they know them.. 17 month olds are great parrots.. but that doesn't mean that word is in their vocabulary..

This is what is "normal"

Shows interest in people, toys and understands the function of common household items ( toothbrush, fork, telephone)
Appears to understand what you say
Has a 15-20 word vocabulary and uses those words regularly
Imitates your actions and words
Exhibits a variety of emotions (anger, fear, delight)
Can handle more than one task ( walking AND pulling a toy behind them)
Can pour water from one container to another without splashing and spilling
Point to body parts as you name them
Can point to colors and shapes as you name them
Can understand simple commands " Put the cup on the table"
Can use their own name to identify themselves
Attempts to sing songs with words

These are all "normal" for a 17 month old.. she could be a little more advanced if you take time to teach her more, or she could be a little behind.. but it's normal

The range of 'normal' is vast. Girls were created with the gift of gab. They usually speak earlier, enunciate better, say more words, etc. However, the ability to communicate doesn't determine intelligence.
Girls and boys have their own strengths and weaknesses, but I'm sure your daughter is a genious:).

Boys develop motor skills faster than do girls..kicking throwing running rotating feet while climbing stairs etc. Girls language center develops quicker. As boys are concentrating on other things (boy things if you will). My 17 month old could do all of the above mentioned things but couldn't really speak. his speech is finally catching up with him he is 22 months.

Girls are way faster as babies. My daughter is dying to walk at 8 months and her cousin didn't even bother trying until he was 1 year
