First they need a headshot, a profile and a full body shot to send to agencies. They should get an agent before they shoot a whole portfolio so that the agent can tell them what kind of photos they need.

A Head Shot is the First picture anyones needs for any creative portfoilo.

Some poses, full body and upper boady shots. Choose different clothing styles and designs. Also try different lighting and a veriety of black and white as well as colored shots.

You should ahve between 20-30 good photos, with about 4 of each photo.

I agree with Christina, but it also helps if the poses are very original. My nephew is a photographer for all types of models (and I do mean all). He has copies of many of the pictures he's taken hanging up in his home, and some are very unique. One is a black and white of a woman dressed like a screen star of the 1930's or so. Another is the most unique I've seen--the model is covered with gold glitter and stretched out along the ground. He said it took her 3 days to get all the glitter off and took him 3 weeks to get it out of the carpet!
