Find my list below of the top five links for fighting ants at the eHow.com website -- all kinds of ways to get back at the little nasties. About 100 or so tips on what to do, many of them natural things -- maybe something there will do for you. Good luck!!

Carpenter ants can be very difficult to control and they can cause hidden damage to wood costing much more money to repair verse the cost of an exterminator. Any insecticide you can buy at the store that is labeled for ant control can work for carpenter ants as long as you can find the main nest and the satellite nests. Each nest must be treated! Home remedies are not that effective, the ones that are slightly effective will take extreme efforts on your part and can be exspensive and time consuming.

Let's see here, according to your question, you live on a acer, and have 4 crapenter ant's? Step on all 4 of them.

If on the other hand you have an acre to contend with, and have an infestation of carpenter ants, I agree, don't call an exstermanator, instead call an exterminator and he will solve your problem for you.

It isn't really a "home remedy", but is safe around pets, etc.....Sevin Dust.....will get rid of anything and is cheap. We always keep some around...use it around the horse troughs, on the dogs and cats for fleas....it is very good and very safe.
