Why do we allow millions of people die every year
- starvation
- lack of drinking water
- no access to drugs that exist and cost peanuts to manufacture
Are you sitting comfortably, then I'll begin...
Why do we do nothing?
Can you imagine having to watch you child die of hunger, lack of water, or some poxy disease we cured in Europe over 100 years ago?
Have a nice weekend

What each of us does is personal. I don't have to justify myself. I asked a question to fuel a small (friendly) debate.
I've always been frustrated by this question. I do a little, but our friend is correct when "guessing" that I will not be flying over to Africa this weekend.
I think the way individuals can help is to keep bringing the matter up to national levels. One day, a lot of nations will come together to help the poorer ones (I remember my Dad always said that Apartheid would never end in his life-time, and he was wrong).
I was being cynical about "having a nice weekend"; sorry :)

i would ask you a question, and in doing so i am not attacking you.
as a caring human, i care for my fellow man be he green yellow black or pink, i give what i can afford to my charities, i do not earn enough money to give to every charity that asks, i have to share what wealth i create with my goverment, i do not suffer guilt because i have a tv, or a computer for that matter, i have had the good fortune to be able to work and pay for them, part of that salary is given to help others, so i am not alone in my actions millions of citizens of this world help in any way they can the less fortunate so my question to you is this. why dont you post your question with the goverment of your country, find out what they are doing actually with the share of your and my salary taken in taxes, to help the starving and hungry and deseised children

David, you are missing a very fundamental point- nature controls the way we survive on the planet.
In the areas that you describe there are insufficient staple products available to encourage population growth - if they wern't born - they couldn't die, nature regulates the lives of those that were born but not supportable.
Imagine if every child born un the U.S. lived to a ripe old age, slowly the population would outgrow the natural resources the country could provide
Your old and weak would start to die earlier, disease would take care of a great number of middleaged and also affect the birthrate.
Eventually the population would be balanced against the resources available.
If you don't like watching children die - then join in with the recommendation of active birth control
Edit 1 for David R.
Thanks for your random and totally unprecidented comment.
I have been out there sunshine, I've seen the suffering, i've seen the people working their guts out to try to scratch a living, and it just doesn't work.
The land cannot support the population, and throwing money at it just lines the pockets of a select few.
If you think basically, the land is dead, it doesn't grow anything much even when water is available, water is so precious that it can't possibly be wasted for sanitary means, the average temperature is enough to make even the most minor wound become infected in hours.
When you all get of your fat Fu c k ing arses and go and see for yourselves you will very rapidly come to the same conclusion as we have.
Bluntly, you haven't got a clue.

First of all, might I ask what you are contributing to the problem yourself? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, and all that nonsense. And don't tell me you're donating to Oxfam or some other charity. Most of that money never makes it to those who need it the most. There's a lot of people to pay before it makes it that far. With all the years of Children in Need and Comic Relief, have you ever noticed a difference in the current world circumstances? I rest my case.
In order to make a difference, you have to get off your keester yourself and get your *** over there and do something. I don't care if it's helping to plow or showing people where best to plant crops or helping to establish a potable drinking supply. I have a work buddy in Pharmacy who is, as we speak, over in Africa volunteering her precious annual leave time to treat people at an AIDS clinic. People she's never met, but that she got off her butt for and is helping with several others. I take it from your post here that you are not in the remotest of Africa at the moment doing the same. Pity.
I admit, I am doing nothing myself, but I am not here chastising others for not doing what I myself am not doing. To make a difference, it would take everyone getting up and getting out and doing something about it. No stupid protests trying to get the governments to do something, I mean YOU and EVRYONE doing something.
People just want today and tomorrow to be exactly like yesterday. Until that mentality changes, the deaths and poverty experienced by these people will be the norm. That change includes you too, buster.
Have a great weekend yourself.

Well I always wondered, if you have no food and no clean water and you live in an area with a high chance of catching one of these diseases - Then why have 6 kids?
You know you have no food for them and that most of them will die before they are 5 of starvation or disease but still have more?
Also death is a fact of life, we do not allow millions to die every year - there is nothing I could do to stop this therefoe I am not allowing it. People die every day and each death affects somebody in some way but this is how life is.

I try to help the people close to me, I feel cut up too about the rottenness of what's going on in the world.
In some African countries even though there is famine it is a custom for a woman to bear a lot of children, in Europe people think more than twice about having children if they feel they can't provide for them. In some places when you send donations the money is unfortunately spent by local war lords or dictators and the needy don't even get what is sent for them., which does not mean we should stop sending help.
It's bad but it's the way of the world, what do you do to change things ?

It's easier. Most people don't really care that much unless it's directly effecting them. Like I don't personally care about Joe Bob's child custody hearing - I'm extremely involved in mine. I don't really care about my neighbor's kids - I care about mine. I don't care about the poverty stricken people of the world - I have a hard enough time getting through my own finances. It's unfortunate but at the same time we need to take care of ourselves and our families before we run off and join the Peace Corps. I would love to run off to a third world country to help the starving children, but then my children would starve. It's all about priorities and good or bad - my family comes before anyone else's.

what a question, what a question. well if our selfish race CARED to TRY and look after the environment, this wouldn't be an issue would it?
it's because we think because we have been lucky enough to be given brains that we should now be dominatrixes. Well animals have brains but the only difference is they bleeding use them.
what a sad world we live in as that our ,what one may call, 'brothers' in Africa ,as an obvious example, have to suffer and all we can do is COMPLAIN that our chips aren't salty enough, COMPLAIN that our boss is getting at our arses, COMPLAIN that we stubbed a flaming toe.
as i said, we are god damned selfish.

Is there an interest which you will start up doing at the same time? It appears like your mom is depressed and lonely and so she is possibly in simple terms seeking to pass the time with the aid of watching television. If she keeps herself busy and in yet another international, she does not would desire to tackle reality. i'm particular it is likewise why she talks to human beings on her tarot card line. If she's incredibly non secular, I doubt she would have self belief in tarot enjoying cards. although, if there is an interest which you will locate to do along with your mom, it provides you with a mind-blowing probability to talk and spend time along with her. it is going to additionally shop her busy and questioning approximately different issues. as an occasion, i began out to scrapbook with my mom and this is been large in helping us construct a extra effective relationship. It provides us some thing to talk approximately and do, we are in a position to circulate procuring and proportion strategies approximately projects. We do nothing because personal needs come first.
What would you expect us to do? What have you personally done? The richest nations on earth have other priorities superceding alleviating poverty in the world.
Your frustration here is as effective as a drop of water in an ocean.
