Usually I clam up. If I'm at the point that I can't fake a smile, then I probably don't care about anything you're saying to me. I won't talk, I won't look at you and I usually snap at the littlest thing. When I get like that, I don't try to make a point of being around people. I usually hole up in my room and do a lot of thinking or reading.

You can always fake a smile.. it just takes practice.. force those mouth corners up with your hands if you need to.
Perhaps draw a clown smile on with some paint.
If that doesn't work, just read some of the questions and answers here on Yahoo Answers..

Don't try to fake a smile it will only look like you are making a face. If you can't smile just be yourself everyone should like you just for being real.

If you can't fake a smile, then make a true smile. Or try to fake a frown.

Then you be who you are,
one can use emotional states
to their own advantage, its very
difficult to feel in a certain emotional
way with effort, one can make an effort.
And the effort brings one to self remembering,
one observing oneself, our emotions run
freely, controlling them is not so easy.
Emotions manifest from inner or outer
pressures, our personal experiences gather
stimulated space, our space of who we are.
But, all you need to do is to look at your
child, i'm sure you will find the strength to
crack a smile, a child's face always seems to
work, their innocence of way may sometimes
help to bring one to invest with a smile or glow
on your face. I know the feeling of not even
wanting to smile, yet there is a way to acquire
knowledge from emotional states, our lives are
mixed with other experiences, one needs to
open the necessary window so as to look in
and see what our control of our self may encompass
to give one light to see where we are and what to
try and do to help ourselves in natures ways of
emotions ...
But if you cannot smile,
then ..... do not ......
It can be very unpleasant to go against ones self,
one needs to agree with yourself so your expressions
are true to who you are .......
So, if you can't even fake a smile or expose a grin,
its alright, just be you ......

Why would you fake a smile anyway? If you aren't happy enough to smile on your own, then perhaps you should talk to someone. Vent your feelings, frustration or pain....let it all out and then perhaps you will smile again. I sure hope so. :)

Melancholy is a wonderful emotion. Enjoy it. Melancholy is nice. It is human. And it's a wonderful word too. Experience melancholy to the full and you won't have to fake a smile. You will get a nice wistful one and be beautiful again.

1) Think how glad you are you arent them
2) Think how stupid they look to everyone else
3) Imagine them in a situation that would be very embarrassing to them
4) Think of someone you love. Then thank god you arent with the person you cant smile at
