I heard Stephen Hawking saying (more or less) that he thought it is awkward that aliens haven't visited us yet. My questions are these, is it far fetched to believe that aliens are avoiding or hiding from us, which would be extremely easy for the advanced,as to not alter are history or give us ideas or technology that we are not ready for? Couldn't letting us see their society and machines be similirar to going back in time and giving the Romans a nuclear bomb? Are there any theorist advancing this? Why wouldn't Hawking?

What should make you think that they are avoiding us simply because they might give us ideas or technology that is too advanced for us? Do you think that because a race or being is intelligent that they automatically have morals? I don't think it means a rat's @ss to ET's whether or not we copy their technology and blow ourselves up. I think that they may not be necessarily avoiding us. Look at it this way. If they know that we exist they are obviously more advanced than us right? What do we have to offer them? It also may be a case of the whites coming to the Indians with white mans diseases previously unknown to the Indians. With all the advanced technology that the ET's presumably have they could study us from afar without getting their grubby little tentacles dirty. Just my thoughts!!

Everybody also assumes that ET lifeforms are much like humans in their survival needs. How do we know that their planet doesn't have maybe a sulphur rich atmosphere and that instead of water to drink they drink mecury??? Food for thought.

For all we know, they are technologically superior. What I have considered in the past is that maybe they can build crafts that break our known rules of physics to get here, but they may be a fairly peacefull race who know nothing of war and the destruction man has fine tuned over centuries. The very first time they laid eyes on us their souls shivered with fear, and they may have decided its best to just observe us from afar. Is it possible that although they are much more technologically advanced they are extremely afraid of us because of our violent nature. Could there be a race of beings that are totally peacefull and loving? I think so. Just as there could very well be races of beings that are hell bent on destruction and would salivate at the thought of finding a primitive blue planet to vent their evil ways. When it comes to the universe my friend, everything is possible.

Steven hawking? AHAHAHAHAH YAKYAKYAK!!! Nice try, steven hawking is considered to be one of the smartest men alive. And he thinks it is strange aliens havent visited?

Look, aliens have to adapt to thre enviorment. like us, they need to have specific things to live. However, they only need what would be on thier world. They sadly would have to adapt to thier planets....and since the closest earth-like planet (I dont mean rocky, I mean an actual almost earth like planet) is hypothesised at 9000 light years away, its not that suprizing. We found another rocky planet 40 lightyears away, but it is just a barren, frozen earth. Much like pluto. Otherwise, the planets outside our solar system are 1300F Gas giants about twice the size of jupitur, aka, hot jupiturs. Moons do exist around them, but they are like that one lava filled place where Obi-wan and Anikin battled to the death near the end of star wars episode 3. So life there would be more bacteria like.

Life could exist in our solar system. Floating life could be hovering in the atmosphere of a gas giant, since we just explored one part. Or on a large moon of a planet. HYowever, intellegent life is almost non-existant...including us.

If aliens observe the earth, they might be repelled by our society, culture, our environmental destruction. Could it be that they choose to wait until we self-destruct?

i think they're definitely avoiding us. look at humans, we're nasty, selfish, arrogant, stupid creatures that consume everything and give nothing in return. there would be no point for them to contact us, they wouldn't benefit from it, they know we'd just freak out and try to attack them. they're waiting until we're intelligent enough to comprehend the information they could give us. if they're there at all...
