in my opinion, brian wilson was just okay.
pete townshend wrote some pretty deep lyrics but I'm in debate about his singing.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were probably better as a team, but they probably did the best overall out of all these song writers.

McCartney. While Lennon was much more imaginative with his lyrics, his songs sound more "dated" to me. McCartney's songs tend to be more catchy and most people can usually relate to his lyrics, more than with Lennon's. The fact that someone can wake up one day, sit at a piano and instantly come up with the lyrics for "Yesterday", truly amazes me.
