Not thoroughly enough. most people will rather take what they hear, and stick with it, rather than do research and get more opinions. Although it won't do much good, because there are so many biased media and Internet companies, it's hard to find a truly neutral news source. Even Fox News, who calls themselves unbiased, has many right winged tendencies.

Most people these days should spend more time researching things themselves, but as you said, the media and the Internet think things over for them. How people grow up, plays and intrical part of how they see, and respond to something. If they had a strong family influence in an area. Then their convictions over things in that area, are not always examined very closely. Some people just go off the assumptions of others that my talk a good talk, and this way they really don't hold their selves accountable for their own responses and actions. Sad to say, most people go with what they see and not what they know, so the media can take them for a ride. There I'm done for now, but hey you asked :)

That's the problem. People assume things and treat the assumption as if it were reality. This can have a very negative affect on the real truth of the person or situation that is being affected by 'their" assumption. It always has a very negative affect on the innocent person. Reality /truth will always be what it is and no assumption can change that. People DON"T examine their assumptions. That's one reason things are so screwed up now a days. Their convictions are based on falsities (is that a word, ha?)

The prevalent consumerism where we are bombarded with an avalanche of new products in the marketplace, coupled with the hectic lifestyle of modern living leaves us with little time to thoroughly process all ideas.

A consumer (of product or service) goes through the process of:
- Awareness
- Interest
- Decision and
- Action

Marketers 'help' consumers facilitate this process (and ultimately choose the company's products or services) through marketing communications techniques including, but not limited to, advertising and promotions.

e.g. how many of us would ask airlines for their pilots' certifications/resumes etc or the air planes' safety fact sheet before taking the flight? i.e. we are assuming that the pilots are qualified and experienced, and that the air planes are in tip top condition, otherwise we wouldn't risk our lives flying with that particular airline.

In this light, people do not examine their assumptions thoroghly before deciding to convict themselves to buy a product/service or take a certain action.

Ususally, the convictions are based on the information gathered through the media or other sources (such as books or other people).

if you have any convictions, they are already there.Convictions are the truths you personally hold to be true ,formed from all you have learned and experienced in your lifetime.your convictions will change as you experience more of life.An idea promoted on TV or the Internet will not change your convictions, but can give you thought or provoke interest. But you are who you are!

Rarely...I have found that most people's "convictions" are based on what they have "heard" or grew up being taught, not usually based on any examination or effort to research their belief. Sad but true. People should know what they believe and "WHY" they believe it.

it is probably in direct relation to the number of times they have heard a particulr view.
i would hope they don't base any convictions on assumptions but rather facts.

Very thoroughly, I always examine why I am thinking that way.
