It seems like the success of football players who become managers/coach particularly after the world cup, has made more players willing to step into these high profile football position. And definitely become another spotlight in the news.
I'm not so sure if southgate would the suitable man for middlesbrough really. I believe many read and know that he does not seems to have the necessary coaching qualifications. He is a good team captain for his former clubs though. I personally think he could just manage the team fairly well for while. Managing the media is another big challenge. Hopefully the media and the critics does not 'kills' him about his tactical decisions etc... Else we'll see another change again.
How soon? Only time will tell.

He's a bright guy and clearly has the ambition to become a good coach. Whether he will be a good manager is difficult to tell until the season is up. Actually, whether he will be a good manager of an entire club will be hard to tell for a few years.
His appointment is good as a continuation for the team, although they need a new centre-back as a result.

He's an intelligent guy, not sure what that counts for, but it should stand him in good sted, I personally want him to succeed, he's a nice guy in football, and like to see him do well .... however, I don't think he will for some reason. I just reckon he might struggle to adapt, and whether he knows enough about the transfer mkt, which I think is where guys at that sort of club really get measured, I'm not sure ... I don't think he'll bring in good value for money transfers, I don't think he will be shrewd enough
But good luck to him, be interesting to see how he does!
