Parfum is a far larger concentration of the actual product, i.e. not watered down so much. You use less, and the smell lasts longer, and is more powerful, hence the larger price tag.

When they make parfum, eau de parfum, eau de cologne, eau de toilette, they use different alcohol to water ratio. Also, the active ingredients (scents) are used in lesser quantity as you go down the ranks of scents, so in eau de toilette you'll have less essential oils, which give the smelly stuff its sence.

Parfum is the real thing, it's pure, eau de toilette is diluted up to 50% so not the real stuff anymore but you also have eau de parfum, diluted again only about 75% so closer to the real parfum.

parfum is stronger...
and more expensive product. usually comes in larger containers also. if you can give and arm and a leg then you can get yourself the toilette version. these normally don't come in sprays... they either have a dipping apparatus where you can 'dab' the frangrance onto your skin or you have to drip it from the bottle.
the eau de toilette is the lesser child of the parfume.
note the word toilette meaning water. IE: it's watered down.
:D
it's really marketing... like with wines.

Parfum is made usually with oil, and 'eau de toilette' is dissolved with alcohol or water, so is less concentrated... and that's because of it that parfum is more expensive and it smell for longer...

eau de toilette is a more dilute form of the scent - closer to (but not the same as) a body spray. parfum is much more concentrated, stronger scent - you only need to use a little of it.

parfum tends to be a stronger concentration so it lasts longer when applied. eau de toilette is cheaper in price and when applied does not last all day - usually needs to be reapplied.

Eau de toilette often has a higher oil content. This means, a smaller amount of the fragrance is needed. A little goes a long way.

Perfume is stronger, more concentrated. So the difference is more water and alcohol in eau de toilette.
