Batman HAD to let ACE be a part of the team, or the danged mutt would fawn all over Batman, and then the public swould realize that the dog knew the secret ID, and then they would kidnap thedog and hold him lest batman should interfere with their crimes-- no, actually they would track down Bruce Wayne through the dog license records.
