Florida you pay a little more the depend on the toursit trade which is pretty steady since there are not real seaonal. Ohio has indstyr and they pay quite a bit toward the taxes so I would say it may be a little cheaper. Florida has communites that are only communitues in the winter months and that don;t have a lot of industry. Land is a perium and so is the weathe you pay extra for all of that.

We re moving back to Ohio after living in Florida, and we would say it was a lot more expensive to live comparably in Florida. The rent is a lot cheaper in Ohio (Columbus), and we could find a comparable house in a comparable area of Columbus for almost 1/3 of what our house here in Tampa was worth here (and we are not near water or even in a flood-zone). Also, be prepared that is a "no fault" car insurance state; our car insurance tripled when we moved here. While there is no income tax, we found we both made A LOT less for the almost identical jobs, and you pay taxes on almost everything you buy. Utilities were comparable, maybe you could save some if you lived north of Tampa (though my friends slightly north said they used their heat more often).

Based on the research I have done, I would say research supports the idea that the cost of living in more expensive in FL than in Ohio, plus comparable wages are a lot lower (unless you live in the REALLY nice areas - they pay a lot, but cost a ton to live).

Just my two cents. We can t wait to save more money and make more money back in our sweet ole Ohio!

Actually one of the "cheapest" places to live in Ohio. Of course we don't offer a whole lot for your money :). It does depend on which two cities you compare. I tried to compare Cleveland, OH to Orlando, Fl If in Cleveland, a house cost about $265,000, that same house would cost about $355,000 in Orlando. Now there are also other issues, such as basic clothing, etc. From what I read, Florida does have a slight advantage, but I'm not sure the savings on the little stuff will add up enough to conteract the $90,000 house price difference.

(And yes, many of the rural areas are less expensive, and some of the other urban areas like Cincinnati and Columbus are probably more expensive)

If you have two particular cities or towns in mind you might want to try this Cost of Living Calculator

Real estate alone is much cheaper in most of Ohio.
I have 2.5 acres in the country with a 4 bedroom home (older home, but pretty nice). It cost about $145,000 altogether. For that same amount of money, I might not be able to buy a half-acre undeveloped building lot in a lot of places in Florida. So your mortgage payment alone accounts for a huge difference in the cost of living.
You heat more in Ohio but you air condition more in Florida.
Food and utilities probably aren't a lot cheaper. Fruit will be cheaper in Florida, but otherwise food is very cheap in Ohio because practically everything we eat can be grown here and there isn't a lot of transportation and processing cost.

I'd have to say the biggest difference is real estate. You can get a lot more for a lot less here in Ohio and that's money in your pocket every month.

Depends on where in Ohio and Florida you're talking about. Major cities always cost more no matter where you live, but on a whole I think they are comparable.

I have lived in NJ, FL, PA,and NC. I have found that property up north is cheaper....FL is expensive because it has so much beach and water property....Insurance if very very high. When I moved to FL in 1972 a 2 bedroom rented for 245.00 and that was about 3 blocks from the beach....When I left in 1987, my rent was 675.00 and that was in the same place. My cousin still lives there and she says now that place rents for about 995.00 a month........she should know. she lives there...
my friends dad lives in Ohio and he is paying 425.00 for a 3 bedroom house..........
so I would have to say the cost of living in Florida is higher.....
