Not to take away the athletic ability of the wrestlers, but of course its staged. Its a male soap opera and its funny. Especially if you watch it to try and find the mistakes they make.
Take him to a show. Let him see it up close. He'll see its fake too, but still entertaining.

I had a room mate in college who loved wrestling. One time the WWF (is that still around or is it called something else now?) came to the campus in Steven Point, Wi. He was so excited... he got his tickets early, got in line early and was all geared up for a good time. A few hours later he came back to the dorm with a face so long his chin was dragging on the floor. He discovered that night [what we had been telling him all along] that certain moves are totally fake and end up being a trick of the camera angles when viewed on TV. While he was at the event he saw the moves from other angles than what you see on TV and discovered that the wrestlers weren't even close to hitting each other or hurting each other due to the seat from where he was watching.
Perhaps you should take your kid to one of these events and let him discover it for himself. Seems like fans don't want to accept that it's fake if they've never been to wrestling live. They defend it to the end-- until they see for themselves that it's totally fake.
Have a great day!!!

Their is no doubt that it is staged. It's predetermined who will win each match at least a week in advance. However how do you fake jumping off a 15 foot ladder and landing on your bosses chest. Those guys know what they are doing and how to take a betting without taking a betting. I compare the acting is just a little better then most day time soaps.

Of course it is staged. It has been consistantly for the past thirty years. It is entertainment of simulated violence. I just watched a documentry on Andre the Giant. He used to wrestle for real, but then he took up "staged fights."

Definitely staged. Some of the action in the ring doesn't always go as planned and you can see most mistakes. However, it's still very fun to watch and some of the characters are hilarious!

I knew it was staged back in the 70's.My ex boyfriends father was a Pro Wrestler and I would watch them practice their moves for the next match. While enemy's in the rink they were friends in real life.

Its just entertainment. Just like American Idol and the rest of those silly TV shows that people believe are real contests. Its just entertainment.

NNNOOooooooo,,,,,,,,,,
Next you'll be telling me that Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny aren't real either.
Guess I'll just shoot myself now that my illusions have been shattered and there's nothing to live for. LOL
They are real athletes, because it takes strength to preform the "STUNTS" they do. I have watched on occasion when there is NOTHING else to do, just for laughs.
The sad thing is, there really are people who believe its real. (I would have your son checked, as most of those people who believe it's real are a bit slow, if you know what I mean.)
PS also be sure and tell him those "REALITY" <-(LMFAO) shows are nothing but crap too!
