like i said wht we do we should accept consequences, thank god this didnt go any further n he can get help, no one says drunk driving is right, but at least nothign worst happened, other than his crazy comments, n if it had then he n only he will have to pay for it so why people getting all worked up, is his responsiblity, no matter wht people say he n everyoen will do wht they wanna do after all, whtever the consequences.

Mel Gibson is one of the few outspoken Conservatives in Hollywood. So of course the media is going to make a big deal out of it when he does something out of the norm.

Yes alcoholism is a disease, but if he gets drunk and then gets into his car to drive, he must be held responsible for that behavior. He is endangering other people. I think that is the most important aspect of what happened -- the guy needs to be off the road.

Regarding the comment saying basically "he was just caught driving under the influence it's not like he killed anybody" -- well that was just lucky wasn't it.

As in many cases, drunkeness contributed to his doing stupid things and saying stupid things. However, it is well to remember that alcohol just brings out what is already there. For example, wife batterers and child abusers often abuse when drunk, but the alcohol didn't make them that way, it brings out what is already there. Likewise, the alcohol didn't make him a bigot. Just made him forget to hide it.

I think it is hilarious. And, yes, I support his right to say whatever he wants. Mistakes? By all means; I have made several while drunk, but here is the thing. I have had to face up to the consequences of my statements and actions. Should he or anyone be any different? No. He will suffer the consequences because he offended the Jews and the last I knew, they ran Hollywood.

He insulted Jewish people and they will never let it go!!BUt your right, just a mistake and anyway whats the big deal each person is entitled to their own opinion. If he doesn't like someone he is free to feel that way and we are in America freedom of speech, even if you are drunk.
There are few people that will truly speak out against things they know are wrong, he probably was thinking of the Lebanon -Isreal situation. Our country won't speak out so at least Mel will.
I say lets go BUY his movies instead of boycott them!

Have you noticed that when the tabloids are having a dry spell any news are great news, so they will milk the cow (now Mel, then Tom) until is dry. Then they will move on to something else.

Yeah, but this is a chance for the Left to get back at him for making his movie about Jesus. They won't let it go.

Todd got it just right.

Alcoholism and Depression are diseases, that often cause people to say, and do things they don't believe. So, yes, I think forgiveness would be good at this point.

I know. The media shouldn't be making headlines over this. I am suspecting that they are conspiring to ruin his image. We are human. All of us make mistakes.
