Easily, they are in the driver's seat.

It put them in a good position, they wanted the wage hike to fail ,and so they tacked on the tax cut. They had a kind of win/win situation. Those opposed to the obscene tax cut couldn't vote for the wage hike without making the rich considerably richer and our government losing millions in revenue.
They are in it for contributions to the Republican party, for all the conglomerates and for the buddy system of the rich and powerful.
They even know that if the the wage hike had passed, people would have had a little more to spend and it would have benefited the economy. There hasn't been a minimum wage hike in 10 years; in the same 10 years, they have voted themselves $35,000 in raises and are considering another hike of $3,300.

Our present government is lead the powerful, the pious, the hawks, and the ignorant. If we can't change it, it's our fault.

And, no, my net worth isn't over 2 million dollars.

They know that there is nothing wrong with raising the min wage and at the same time they can put in the estate tax cut bill hoping the Dems will be dumb enough to vote for it. If the Dems are smart they will reject this bill and in Nov if they take back the House they can pass the min wage bill with the stupid Estate Tax Cut trick. Aren't you sick of political tricks. Why cant we just have a straight up government there always has to be a catch like putting in the Estate Tax Cut with a Raise in Min Wage. I hate politics.

Bill Frist, the Republicans you refer to,

had earlier considered the pensions bill as the most likely vehicle for the estate tax cut, when brought up separately.

The estate tax, is opposed to by Democrats.

The tax provision was one of several that has held up a compromise on the pensions legislation, which is designed to strengthen the employer-based pension plans that some 44 million Americans rely upon for their retirements.

They were also considering not including in the pension bill a separate package of tax measures that would reinstate temporarily some popular tax breaks, including a corporate research and development credit and a deduction for state and local sales taxes.

Cutting estate taxes would help a lot of Americans too--Demoncats can't seem to understand that. Why don't you look into it. It's completely unfair for the government to take over half of what a person has worked for all their lives so that they could leave their loved ones better off. Demoncats just love to pick over the bones of the dead, even after they've taxed them all the way to the grave.

Getting rid of the Death Tax will also help a lot of people. Do you want to be taxed AGAIN on something you worked so hard for during your life. I don't.

Because they don't care about most Americans. They care about their own self interests and if those interests happen to benefit the masses then so be it. If the interests do not benefit the masses then they use words like terrorist and patriot and freedom and jesus to instill fear and false pride into the weak.

Don't tell me you want to KEEP the Death Tax?!

It's the most inexcusable and punitive tax imaginable, and should be eliminated.
