I am trying to replace the wheel bearings in my boat trailer. I can only get the front bearing out. I pulled the rear seal but can not get the second bearing out. Please help. Pictures would be a big help!

First you need to find out what bearings the wheels have in them. to do that, jack the wheel up, remove the bearing cap or pressure bearing cover to gain access to the bearing nut. Remove the bearing nut (you will have to remove whatever is securing it) slide the outer bearing off of the shaft, remove the hub/wheel assembly and set it on the ground with the inner side of the tire up. There you will find a seal that you will need to replace also. Find the numbers for the seal, write them down, use a long punch and knock the seal out, clean the outer bearing assembly and find the numbers for that assembly and write that down also, the inner bearing should have fallen out when you knocked the seal out but if not you might have to knock it out too. You will want to replace the cup also so clean it off (It lives in the hub) and copy that number down too, punch the ‘race” out using a long punch and then go the auto parts store and purchase the parts you need for the wheel(s) on your trailer. There is a possibility the inner and outer bearings on the hub are different so you need to check the inner bearing for its number too. Once you have the parts, grease the bearings and put it all back together. =)

George has the answer down pat. Make certain to grease the heck out of them! I recommend cleaning them once a year and greasing them once a month if the trailer is in the water often...especially if it is saltwater. Proper maintanence should prevent you from ever having to replace them! GREASE, GREASE, GREASE!!!
