ummm, i feel that it's pretty much like quitting any bad habit. just stop buying it and stop smoking it. now, if you're at a party or something and someone sparks a doobie, then partake, but don't make is such a habit.

you have to WANT to not smoke anymore. obviously, you see it as a problem, so just stop it.

i quit after college and i've only done it a few times since then. i also used to smoke about 2 packs a day and i quit that too.

you just have to make a choice.

Find something to replace it with. To break the habit, you have to disrupt the habit. Something to relax would probably work well, but having an important hobby or activity in your life to do in your free time would eliminate all that useless time you have to toke it. Try meditation, look into Buddhism, volunteer with a community group, start writing, work with your hands, whatever interests you.

Also important is to have some goals. Figure out, even if it's just somewhat vague, what the hell you want to do with your life and then work toward it. You've already started that by wanting to "do something with your life". Clearly, as you have indicated, smoking a lot of weed cannot help you achieve your goals, so it just gets left by the wayside of life.

You should consider cutting down and replacing it with regular cigarettes so that it seems more natural a decline.

I would also recommend talking to your GP about quitting the drug since you've clearly realised that it's not doing you any good.

I would bear in mind the fact that one in four people are susceptible to the drug in a way that could cause intense repeated psychosis that is likely to result in suicide. That, along with the heart trouble it causes and the magnified risk of cancer, I'd have thought that these things alone would help incentivise you to stop.

And to the person above who says about living your life; I've been to Iceland and went swimming in the Blue lagoon, to Russia and hugged a babushka in Red Square, driven the Arctic Highway and eaten reindeer, been to various places in the US, the UK and Europe, I'm going to China soon; I'm seeing the world and I love making music (you'll find us on iTunes), I love photography and writing and most of all I love my partner; I'm living my life and haven't once smoked cannabis or used any kind of recreational drug.

Life is amazing without, to be honest.

Pray to the true God for help through the name of his Son Jesus Christ and if he sees that you are really serious and sincere he will help you do it, you are very right in trying to get of that it is very bad stuff even though many don't believe that it is, but if you want to give up then maybe you should really try giving up smoking as well, otherwise every time you have a smoke you will have memories and will feel withdrawals because smoking is associated with smoking Grass!do try hard you will be glad you did. the best thing you could do is to prepare to set yourself a starting date and then stick to it. I used some stop smoking pills to help me and it did help these days they have nicotine patches I don't know how well those work because I got tablets from the chemist and they helped, also I prayed and although it was a battle I did it in the end With God's help if you want any support feel free to email me but ultimately it is a matter of how much you want to give up!

Weed is not physically addictive but can be psychologically addictive. You may be addicted to the nicotine in the tobacco that you may smoke with the weed. If this is the case try giving up smoking methods like patches.

If it's just the weed identify your weak moments and try to occupy them with something else. i think you've identified the root of the addiction as you say you aren't doing anything decent with your life. Maybe you are smoking because you aren't doing anything rather than not doing anything because you are smoking.

You need to start deciding where you are going and what you want. You know you only get one chance.

There are many sites on the net that give advice on how to give up try not to replace it with something else thats just as bad like alcohol one guy I knew has done that and is now an alcoholic which is probably doing him more harm than the weed did. You could also take up relaxation classes too. Just do a search on google for somewhere near you.
Good luck

Weed isn't physically addictive, although while trying to quit it may feel like it is. If you can get yourself to stop thinking about it, you shouldn't feel it. Try chewing gum to occupy your mouth.

If you can't do it just by willing yourself to, cut down on how OFTEN you smoke. Reduce it by, say, 25% at first, then once you manage that, do it another 25% less frequently. If you feel you can cut down further than 25% each time, by all means, do.

my boyfriend did it. he stopped cold turkey too. He has been clean now for 8 months....and he had his BEST semester at school after he quit. YOu got to stay stong, keep away from those who toke, get a hobby because the hard thing was my boyfriend used to always say that he never knew how much time he spent smoking, and when he would get bored, he would get the urge. YOu got to have someone to talk to that supports you and does not judge you, and DOES NOT SMOKE....

Most of all, I know you can do it. And if you do fail, just try it again.

One of the first things you should do, is change your circle of Friends. In order to stop, you have to be able to get completely away from it. You can't do that if you are around people who smoke.

It takes approximately 28 days to break any habit.

Sign yourself up with a detox and then a recovery programme, by working through the 12 steps. Depending on where your living, this might or might not be available locally to you, however, try the internet, by typing in 'Drug Recovery Programme'.

If this does not work, come back to me!
I work in a residential rehab, and can help you further!
