I believe women can serve in certain jobs in the military without any problems whatsoever. The problem lies in telling them "no, you can not do this"... then come the newspapers and lawyers. Women should have to try and compete for a "job" just like the men but there PT standards are lower than a man's. Women are generally weaker than a man... it's NOT their fault... it's a little thing called genetics. The military is one of those areas where "equal rights" is complete and udder BS.
I served with 2 women in Iraq that only got their jobs because they were women that put up a stink until they were given the job. Just because you can pass classroom work does NOT mean you can cut it in combat. They did nothing but cause problems, make all worry about someone having their back and the whinning... OH MY GOD the whinning!
I also served with women in Iraq that I would fight along side on any given day. Some were even better than some of the men... and those men should NOT have had their positions either. To me, it's a case by case basis and keep that "equal rights" BS out of the combat zone!

I don't see a problem with women joining the military and becoming active soldiers. They can do the jobs just as well as men can. I applied to join the military here in UK when I left school but a medical condition stopped me :-( It's 2006 not 1806.... you're country should get with the modern times! A lot of women would love to join up! A female friend of mine joined up and is now an officer... I'm so proud of her!!

Hey, when your country is at war, I would think that having some extra help would be appreciated & needed in order to win, especially if your enemy has a mostly male population as soldiers! What woman wouldn't want the chance to kill the creatures that have placed her in bondage for so many years! Now, I'm NOT saying ALL men are bad, but when a soldier is in need of a motivating force, a woman who would gladly take up arms probably would not NEED all that much motivation in order to do her job! I JUST know I am gonna get some hate mail on this! Unfortunately, I am too old to join!

I believe wwe need women in the millitary, but I dont think they should be sent to the frontlines. And not because I think women are any less warriors than men, simply because frontline soldiers often go a week or more w/o the oppertunity to bathe.
And lets be realistic, have you ever smelled a woman if she goes any amount of time w/o bathing? There is a real danger there of a wom an giving up the position of her unit just from smell alone.
I dont mean this to sound crude or do I wish to offend anyone with this statement but facts are facts. Lets not make it any more dangerous for our guys that it already is.

If you were in battle and the only person around to help you was a woman, would you send her back to HQ because of your opinion?
Yes. It is right to allow women in the military. I used to be of the opinion only women without children or husbands should be allowed in the military so the children and the husbands wouldn't have to deal with losing a mother and wife.
If someone should attack HQ while at her desk job, a woman should know how to fight like a soldier.

Yes, women should be allowed to be in the military. They should not be allowed to be in combat though. The reasons for that are both social and biological. But there is nothing wrong with women providing crucial support for those who are engaged in combat.
Lou: Seriously, no instance where a woman was inferior to a man? A Howitzer SHELL weighs 98 pounds. Women are genetically weaker and smaller than men thus, there ARE areas where we are inferior.

Yes of coarse they should be able to be a soldier! I am training to be a marine and we have these excersise meetings every weekend......i am a FEMALE....and i do just about EVERYTHING faster and better than the guys that go to the meetings day after day...the recruiters are ALL left with their mouth open because i am better than most of the fellas there. Women can be just as good as ANY man out there if not better. Women should not be underestimated.

Why not, being in the military is not all about going out and fighting in a war. Most people in the military never have to go and fight a day in their lives (my fathers in the military, so I know). Women are just as capable as being in the military as men. As long as Women want to be in the military, I think they should be allowed. Whatever they do in your country, is there problem. If they want to keep women confined to home and office jobs, thats on them....this is America and here we do it differently!!!!

On the other hand, there are countries which demand that everyone of a certain age be in the military for a period of time. Then remain in the reserves, for rapid call up when necessary. It has worked well in this country.
In the US, it is totally volunteer recruitment and continues to induct women. They are very capable in handling the jobs they qualify for.

I think that women play an important role in the military as well as men do. I have had women family members who have served honroably in the military. I think that everyone on this earth plays a role and if so happen that a woman's role turns out to be to serve her country in the military than I think that is great. I think that women are an integral part to the military.
