If a dog attacked me it would be put down straight away. So why, if a dirty scally human attacked me, would it only get a few weeks community service?

Rabies is fatal in all species. As the central nervous system deteriorates the victims go mad. A mad dog, cat, or other infected animal can randomly attack, spreading rabies.

Rabid animals are dispatched immediately before they spread the disease. Rabid humans will die anyway and once the dementia gets to a certain point they are sedated to keep the person as calm as possible before they expire.

The universal fatality of rabies is why they take is so seriously when someone is bitten. If the animal is not found quickly the series of vaccinations is started immediately before the disease sets in.

So the short answer is that they don't put down humans because they are unlikely to spread it before they die.

As much as I am an animal lover...a dog can't tell you it's feeling sick. Most of the time, you probably wont know a dog has rabies until it is far to gone, and it attacks someone. By that point, nothing will calm it down. If a human has been bit, they can tell someone and get proper care. If they are feeling sick, they will probably get help before they "go rabid." Do you see people foaming at the mouth often?

Excellent question if a bit harsh? My young dog (Pic) has just had his first rabies shot for his european passport. And indeed was a rabid person to bite you he/she would get away with community service, judge would decide that person's ill, traumatised by illness, etc ... Who gives a hoot about the dog? But then ... Dogs get destroyed for attacking people yet of all ... 99% of these dogs are only vicious because their stupid owners trained them to be! i reckon they (Owners) Should be put down as well!

Because us humans seem to think that animals are far less important so killing a dog would not seem to be such a big deal. Its unfair to the dog or other animal and if a human commits murder then they should also be punished in the same way.

I don't think rabid people go around attacking people. Zombies do that but not people with rabies.

Because of stupid human laws. Same type of question why can you humanely put an animal to sleep when it is excrutiating pain and nothing can be done to make it better, but your great aunt ...... must live with the pain until she dies naturally. STUPID!!
