What is your personal Definition of what a terrorist is? I don't want a dictionary definition or anything like that and I don't want people to just simply Say Bush or Bin Laden. Tell me what you think a terrorist is. Also don't use generalizations like...anyone from the middle east.

Most importantly is, who has the right to call a group terrorists.
The Australian media called the Chechens that were fighting against the action against them freedom fighters at the start.
If an Australian ran off to help people fight for freedom he would have returned to Australia a terrorist.

An australian David Hicks went to fight with the Bosnians who were being slaughtered by the army controlled by milosovic

David went on to afghanistan because he was developing an interest in islam, where he was captured and now he resides in gitmo limbo.

Just like Breaker Morant nearly a hundred years before him the Australian government were prepared to see him executed.

acts of terror committed by governments should be denounced as terrorism, as well as the acts of groups.

Acts of terror against civillians should be judged as terrorism regardless of who is committing them.

A murderous leader like Stalin was actually praised because the allies needed him. The same goes for many other murderous leaders saddam included.

terrorist-freedomfighter-respected or reviled leader.
Murderer thug and criminal seem more appropriate.

Judge them on their acts not whether a country is friendly to them.

The word terrorist is being stretched, and abused.

For me terrorist is a convenient way to curb the freedom of the masses due to an extremely small minority.

Going into countries like Iraq and imprisoning union leaders along with bathists does nothing to discourage dissent and terrorism.

therefore for me a terrorist is a person from a group who has formed an extreme opinion mainly because a group the person cares for is being massively disadvantaged and they feel no one will listen unless they commit these disgraceful acts.

Addressing their concerns would actually decrease acts of terror.

Let them have options other than acts of terror.

and understand that there will always be a part of the group that just enjoys the power.

I think the distinction to be made is between terrorist and guerrilla. Guerrilla warfare is how people who are out-numbered, out-moneyed, and out-equipped by the other side must fight. You avoid direct combat, which you can't win, and instead, slip into camp, slit a few throats, and disappear into the woods.

It can be successful. It's how the colonies defeated the British during the American Revolution (the father of guerrilla warfare is of course, Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox) and what the NVA did to the US in Viet Nam.

I think the distinction between the two is when the violence spills over (deliberately) into civilian populations. When you do that, you're a terrorist.

A terrorist is someone who commits an act of terror. Such acts involve the sudden loss of innocent life. Under that definition, someone strapping a bomb to his chest and detonating it in a street market would be a terrorist. Admittedly, it would also make Truman a terrorist for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But I'm not so sure that's inaccurate.

Terriorist! A person who has absolutely no respect for any
opinion other than his own, and life is so unimportant that family and children are sacrificed without a moments hesitation.

This grew from ideas fostered at a very young age. Hatred in the name of allah, which again is non existant. Once a terriorist realizes the truth, it is almost impossible to change because of the pressures from other misinformed individuals.

What to do about it? Another question

A terrorist is a person who uses terror as the means to achieve their goals. Not likely very different than what the dictionary says.
