As you only 3 days and what to see som eof Scotland, you have a few options, fly to Glasgow or Edingburgh
1 - Glasgow fly from London, you could do the city for a day, then hire a car and do Loch Lomond, to the north of Glasgow for a bit of walking in the mountains there
2 - Same with edingburgh, fly spend a day in the city but the mountains are little further away
3 - But what I really would do and it something I did alot when living London, is take the Sleeper train from London euston to Fort William. Fort William is the one the town s in the centre of the Scottish mountains. You arrive early in the morning after a fanastic trip through the Scottish Wilderness(worth the trip on its own).
From Fort William you can get to Ben Nevis(highest mountain in the UK), the Mamores mountains etc. Then after 3 days catch the sleeper back to London, no days lost travelling and one of the best UK train trips thrown in.
If you book early it has been known to get returns on the sleeper for as little as £18
PLEASE NOTE-Scottish mountains are serious mountains, wild and wet, and cold at times, so ensure you can read a map, and have all te right gear for climbing mountains when it can be warm and sunny and then in 10 minutes be 5 degrees and snowing!

I'd suggest Edinburgh to be honest. Its a little expensive but there's lots to do there and if you want to go out to more hilly/ mountinous areas you can probably drive. As it is you can take a walk up to Arthur's Seat which is a reasonable stroll.
Link to Arthur' Seat:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur's_Seat,_Edinburgh
There's also plenty of other stuff to see and do in Edinburgh. There's the Castle for starters, lots of shops (on Prince's Street and the Royal Mile), Holyrood Palace (if you're interested in the Royal family). There's also a Scotch Whiskey Museum (yum) an art gallery...the list goes on.
I've put a couple of links in the 'source' page for you to check out.
Hope that helps...

I'm not Scottish, but I think the west coast is greener than the east. Edinburgh is a lovely city. You know it's a long way from London! Spend a week there if you can! Scottish people are very friendly. Don't forget to call into Wales on your way back!

Hello... As lots of other people have mentioned, Edinburgh and Glasgow are both fantastic places to visit.... but there is also the Isle of Arran which is exceptionally beautiful and lush and green. There is also the area around Pitlochry and Dunkeld in the central Highlands which is breathtakingly gorgeous! The landscapes are wonderful... very magical and a complete break away from somewhere busy like London. Scottish people are generally very warm and friendly and generous... that's my experience anyway...and I am from a scottish family and have scottish friends, and during our journeys the people in Scotland are friendly, kind, and full of humour and warmth. There will always be the exceptions to the rule everywhere you travel in the world! :o)
Wherever you choose to travel....have a really wonderful time...and take care.

Avoid Aberdeen. It has to be one of the most boring cities I've ever encountered. Lots of pubs and not much else. The kids I work with complain about how there's nothing for 17 year olds to do. I challenge them to come up with ideas for those of us over 35.

Be warned, the weather is usually atrocious, the natives hardly intelligible and they absolutely hate the English so be prepared to be ignored, badly served and ripped off.
