It's unions that are evil...and they hate WalMart, because it isn't unionized. This ongoing campaign against WalMart is purely a union campaign. They are trying to pressure WalMart to let them in.

Some people don't view it as evil, some do...
We just had 2 super Wal-Marts and 1 Sams Club open here. It has really played havoc with the work fource here in town. They are paying $2 more than everyone else. Talk to the workers, Walmart isn't evil, it's great.... theiy are making more money. Talk to the businesses around town that either have to raise their wages or go out of business because they can't find help (happened to 3 resturants that I know of) and walmart is very evil.
Some people are all talk. Evil, evil, evil... but when it comes to thier checkbook they will support the evil to save a little cash. I say it's about time (super walmarts) because it's making the other employers treat their workers better and pay their workers better. It's also giving these grocery stores a run for their money and we are getting better deals. The local grocery stores around here were really high on alot of items. Now they have to be more careful to keep up with Walmart.

I will answer the shop there part of the question, but the work there will have to wait until I get back from Wal*Mart.
Anyway ... people shop there because there is on many items, but not all, a substantial savings, and one can lower their expenses by shopping carefully there to equal $500.00 a month. That is the month's rent, and if you are working a a low paying job, like Wal*Mart, the savings is worth it.
Unfortunately the are not lower on all things, and the drive out the competition. They are not quite a monopoly, but they get damn close.

I live in a rural area. Wal Mart came in and put alot of family businesses out of business. Some of those family businesses had been operating for decades, supporting their families and providing exellent customer service because they knew their customers.
At Wal Hall, you have to search to find an amployee, then you have to beg them to tell you where you might find something. Usually you get a vague "Over yonder" and a fling of an arm in the general direction of the item. They have no competition in rural areas. If we had a Target here or even a crappy old K Mart, they'd at least have that to struggle against.
As for the employees...no real benefits. The upper management does very well, but they work their butts off for what they earn. They also make you sign an oath when they hire you stating that you will not talk bad about Wal Mart while you work there or after leaving.
You asked.

Liberals hate free enterprise. They think Wally World is evil because they think money is evil. Everyone shops there because they are the cheapest. And cheap is the word. You really have to watch out for the quality there. Buyer beware! Most of their stuff is fine. But never buy fish there. Almost all of mine died. Pet-co same thing. I got some fish at a little Mom and Pop store across the street and all of them are just fine and getting big. Like Mom said, you gotta shop around.

Because once upon a time, it was not evil, but run properly. Now they are reduced to "Employee of the Month", which shows it is really an awful place to work.
We are creatures of habit, and lazy. I go to the Wal-mart (and sister chain ASDA here in the UK) because the prices are low and I know I can usually find what I want. Gradually, I am changing my shopping habits, but have to admit that it is not easy.

It's like a family reunion or a neighborhood get together....people greet one another in Wal-Mart like long lost relatives when in reality they live down the street from one another. The louder the greeting, the bigger the grin on their faces.

I think it may be because they are coming into towns large, and small and running all the smaller businesses away and out of bussiness. There is such a huge tax benefit from these stores that the city's they come into cannot say no to giving them a permit, or for that matter Costco, Home Depot or any Large wherehouse retailer. These mega stores are good for you and I because they can sell relatively cheap stuff cheap. But they are very bad for the small bussiness, yet very good for the city coffers.

Allot of people don't care, they are just after low prices. Also in some rural areas, Walmart is the only store for miles. I never shop there no matter how low the prices - they absolutely don't care for their employees
