Of course Utley has a chance! He's a little over half way there so why can't he finish the other half? It's going to be pretty tough but anything is possible. All he has to do is put the bat on the ball. Anyone could really do it as long as they worked hard and are good at hitting. Plus you have to be pretty lucky since you're gonna be on fire for 2 months! It's gonna be interesting to see how this turns out. Good luck Chase!!!

Utley has certainly fashioned an impressive streak as did his teammate Jimmy Rollins last year. I don't think he will break Joe D's record for one big reason:PRESSURE!!! As the streak grows the attention will grow. And if he ever reached 50 look out. ESPN will have every at bat televised. I think that is too much for any player, even one as good as Utley. I'll be interested to see if he can top Pete Rose's 44 gm streak (The NL record).

Why do i think of that it is strange that a Tiger logo asked the question and 2 Tiger adult males spoke back some Phillies participant? besides, DiMaggio's streak won't ever get broken because of fact the media scrutiny gets so extreme every time somebody gets close that no person would be waiting to handle the rigidity that is going with that. as quickly as somebody hits 40 or 40 5 video games, they are going to be exhibiting each and every at bat on ESPN, and there will be press conferences with the participant each and every night to accomodate each and all of the media. i admire Utley as a participant, yet while there's a mild danger somebody ought to do it, it may could desire to be a participant with extra speed and a guy who leads off, like Ichiro, Juan Pierre or Jimmy Rollins. there will be nights the place a participant will could desire to conquer out an infield hit for their in basic terms hit and in the event that they lead off they'll many times get 5 at bats the place Utley from time to time gets 4 quite of 5.

As a Phils' fan - and a huge Utley fan - I'd love to see it.
But, does he have a chance? I'd say maybe 5-10% chance.
Think about simply the odds of any player starting a 21 or 22 game hitting streak from scratch, then add the media circus (televised at-bats won't matter as that's during the game itself), etc...
It's not impossible, but still very unlikely...I'd especially like to see him extend for at least another 10 games to top Rose's 44 game streak.

I give him no chance.
Some manager down the road, if he gets close to the record, will see Utley retired in his first at bat, and then walk him every other time up...or have him hit with a pitch
No manager wants to be the one to have a record like that set against his team.
Anyone look ahead yet to see who Utley will be playing against in the '57th' game (assuming he plays every day)?
UPDATE: The streak is over, it ended at 35. That didn't take long! :-)

I dont. With all the hype and media pressure he is getting (it was breaking news on ESPNEWS last night), the pressure is going to catch up with him. Back when DiMaggio set the record, there was very little media pressure and attention on it. I think that Utley will reach 40, and then crack.

He will need generous scorekeepers on questionable fielding plays somewhere during the next 20 games but since records are made to be broken, I hope he makes it. Nothing against Joltin' Joe. Good luck Chase.

I doubt it, but I hope he does. I dont want Joe DiMaggio or ANY Yankee having any damn records.
And I like Chase Utley much better too.

Nope... The media will get to him and wear him down if he gets much closer...
As for those people above that say Dimaggio's streak or Ripken's consecutive game streak are the toughest one's in baseball to break, let me remind everybody about Cy Young's career win total of 511 and Nolan Ryan's career strikeout total of 5,714... NOBODY will ever touch those two records.
