I don't find that to be true for myself, but I think others who do it are using the person they hurt as an outlet for their frustrations. It makes them feel better to get the emotions out. (Even though they did not fix whatever their problem is.)
I think another reason that people are hurtful is to make themselves feel better. As in squashing you, elevates them.
There's also the being a part of the crowd where everybody chimes in with some distasteful comment about one person.
I guess it would be easier to hurt someone if you don't have to live with any of the consequences.
Helping someone requires that you identify with their problem, and that you expend a certain amount of time and effort to help them solve their issue. There may or may not be any "pay off" for your help.
Good question

I'm not sure but it's a great point. I guess because helping someone actually takes work, whether it's knowledge, or just simply having the patience to hear them out, whereas it's easier to just say, I'm sorry I don't know how to help, and then walk away.

Thats not always true. It depends on how you look at it. But generally causing good can be expensive to do while do something bad like vandalism just takes breaking something. Good normally takes longer to provide results. A farm for example. You must tend to the crops for a LONG time in order to create food...however to destroy them you only need to rip the crop up or poison it with fertilizer.

I think it is the bible and all the religious teaching. It gives the impression that everyone is bad and that only a few people are able to do or be good.
This is not true, of course. If we lead a moral life, we naturally want to to do good and kind things for people.

because sometimes if you help you end up being the bad guy !
now a days!
and they think you think they are stupid or useless or sometimes it is insulting to them!
depending on the people youa re tying to help !
sometimes one word can really make someone really hurt! in less than a second!
while helping takes time energy thought and effort!

I have often asked myself this same question. I guess it has to do with the way you were brought up. If you have unresolved issues of being bullied or tormented as a child it's easy to manifest your pain by doing similar things to others if given the opportunity.

It's more effort and energy to help someone than to hurt someone. You have to care about someone in order to help them. You don't have to care about someone you hurt.

Because people are cold and heartless. It is easier to **** on somebody when they are down, instead of trying to pick them up.
