I believe that its their insecurities and false prejudices that prevent them from acknowledging their hypocrisy. Think about it; it's disgusting in their eyes to see two of the same sex engaging in sex and living together, on moral standards. Yet there is a blind eye and wink to their own dismay with cheating spouses and bastard children. They complain that we are in disposable relationships, yet they sleep around more than we do. Listen to any form of the media and learn about the problems developed because of unfaithfulness; betrayal, and abuse.

O.K. here is my opinion of the whole situation. It's like this, when you think of homosexuality, the first thing a heterosexual man tends to think of is sex. Since this is what dominates the heterosexual man's mind about ninety percent of the time, then ostensibly this is what he is going to think of when it comes to the homosexual. And when he thinks of sex he is associating what that homosexual man's sexual preference is with the type of person he is, therefore, leading him to have some drawbacks and phobia's about that person/man.

Another reason may be that there are so many stereotypes about the gay community that are portrayed in the media and on television that some tend to take that as the truth to what a homosexual may be like. For instance take the show Will and Grace, in this show it embarks probably on every stereotype there is about the homosexual male. That he is effeminate, weak, and promiscuous, which is something that a heterosexual male wants to avoid being associated with.in a heterosexual man's mind to know is to become in some instances. And what is worst for a heterosexual man than to lose his masculinity and be accused of being homosexual.

Just writing about this makes me have some drawbacks and I am a very straigt male, but it is just the phobia of being associated with that group that troubles heterosexual. You see that I had to add that I am straight in this answer, b/c there are some phobias even in this.

Unfortunately, society fears deviance, and what they do not understand. Homosexuality is considered to be deviant because it goes against the "norm". Although I do not agree with it, there are some close minded fools out there who view homosexuality as bad, a sin, disgusting, or ___ insert negative term here...

The reason homosexuals do not fear heterosexuals is because it IS the norm. It is what most are more than likely exposed to during life. People do not fear what has been deemed normal.

From a homosexual standpoint, all that most homosexuals would want is acceptance, and the same civil rights that every other American has. Am I correct?

I know!!! I have had huge arguments with my dad over this. I'm a girl who has dabbled in both genders, and am currently in a hetero relationship, but I just don't get why he has to hate the whole community based on some unfounded Biblical rubbish that's outdated and probably was made up to please the powers-that-be at the time. Just because a person is gay it doesn't define their whole character. It's a small part of the whole. I don't see why people should concern themselves with what sexual activities you get up to unless they're actively involved themselves. Otherwise they're just being plain rude and offering an unwanted opinion. Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has one.

Some people are uncomfortable about their sexuality and feel that by associating with homosexuals they will perhaps come off as gay or even become one(I guess they see it as almost a Night of the Living Dead-type thing). It's also the way people are brought up. I know personally I was raised with homosexuals around me and taught that they were no different from me. When it comes down to it I guess it's different strokes for different folks.

Because they are ignorant!Read my profile!I really do not get it,if they only would stop and actually get to know some gay people, they are missing out on great friendships and fun.I just went to Pridefest a few months ago and my hetero 19 year old son went too and passed out flyers for my friends business. So I pray more parents will teach their children about different sexual, ethnic, and economic, religious backgrounds and be a good role model there may be hope for my sons generation not to carry on this ignorance!

The old testament says that a man laying with a man is a sin. Jesus gave us one rule. I recently found a forbidden book of the bible where Lazarus put the moves on Jesus after Jesus "brought him back to life". Apparently Jesus thought for a few days, then spent the night with Lazarus. (Hey, don't get p/o @ me, I'm just sayin'.) Universal brotherly love, eh? I think that some people confuse homosexuality with the the whole priest thing, weirdos, perverts, etc. "Judge not", etc. etc.

People are often afraid of what they don't understand. They have strange misconceptions like they or a loved one can suddenly "become" gay. And that homosexuality is easy to "catch" or learn just by hearing about it or being around gays. The also think that they always know who is and isn't gay just by looking at them. Since they convince themselves that its apparently easy for someone to become gay they live in fear that it could happen to them.

Homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God. If anyone reads the Bible, and accepts it as the truth, will know this.
Some people do not know how to act around a gay person because they are different. They chose a different lifestyle from most other people. I think a straight person will not know how to react if a gay person hits on them. I had a homosexual hit on me and I honestly did not know how to act. I just ignored her, but I did remain friends with her. It is just not natural to be gay. I am so sorry if I have offended you with my opinion. I didn't mean to. Just trying to be honest. :)
