The 2nd answer is correct.

The Yanks results during those years were:

1949 Won World Series (Dodgers) (They also beat the Dodgers in 1947 as well)

1950 Won World Series (Phillies)

1951 Won World Series (Giants)

1952 Won World Series (Dodgers)

1953 Won World Series (Dodgers)

1954 won 103 games, but finished 2nd to Cleveland, who won 111

1955 Lost World Series to Dodgers in seven

1956 Won World Series (Dodgers)

1957 Lost World Series (Braves)

1958 Won World Series (came back from 3-1 deficit vs Braves)

1959 Finished 3rd in AL (Chicago & Cleveland)

1960 Lost World Series (Pirates)

1961 Won World Series (Reds)

1962 Won World Series (SF Giants)

1963 Lost World Series (LA Dodgers)

1964 Lost World Series (Cardinals)

The Yanks didn't win another pennant until 1976.

The '49-53 Yanks were the only team ever to win five straight World Series (no one else has won more than 3 in a row...the Yanks also won 4 in a row from '36-'39.

1954 Giants played the Indians
1959 Dodgers played the White Sox
Only 2 times in 16 years did the Yankees not appear in the series!
